Valentine’s Gifts for the Ones Who Love You Unconditionally

(Cooper City, Fla – February 10, 2012) You probably don’t want to give roses to Rover this Valentine’s Day, but you’d still like to show your pets what the true love in their life thinks of them.  Well, Leyda Hernandez, marketing and social media coordinator for Purebred Breeders LLC says, “Pets can sense that there’s a special holiday being celebrated around them, and they want to participate.  What better day to show your pet some extra pampering. “

And, you won’t be alone if you buy your pet a Valentine’s gift this year. The National Retail Federation expects consumers will spend $367 million on their pets for the holiday.  Ms. Hernandez of Purebred Breeders LLC says, “The best gifts are the ones your pet will enjoy playing with or eating that are not their normal treats.”

Purebred Breeders LLC has created this guide to make Valentine’s Day special for your favorite furry friend.

Gourmet treats are a great way to delight your dog.  Whether you are baking them yourself or buying them, remember to pay special attention to the ingredients.  Be aware of any possible allergies and remember that although chocolate is almost essential to our human Valentine’s Day treats, it is extremely toxic to dogs as it contains a chemical called theobromine.  An ounce of baking chocolate is enough to poison a 50-pound dog; look for recipes specific to dogs to ensure your dog will love his new treats and will be begging for more.

If you and your dog are more of the pampering type, visit a dog spa where you can spoil your doggy Valentine with some fabulous fun.  A new haircut can be make a huge improvement for a dog’s appearance and a massage can help them de-stress, relieve muscle tension and improve circulation.  Your dog will love the special treatment and will leave ready for Valentine’s Day with a new haircut, massage and can even get a pedicure and have their nails painted.

If you have children, you can try this fun activity with your family.  You can all press your hands and paws into non-toxic paint and press your prints onto a canvas that you can then frame and place in your home.  This Valentine’s Day gift will serve as a personal keepsake of your family’s bond, four-legged friends included.

Leyda Hernandez says, “Remember, your pet gives you unconditional love every day, why not return an extra measure of love this Valentine’s Day.”

Purebred Breeders LLC loves dogs and we’re sure you do too!  People can become extremely attached to their pets and that is no exception for rich and famous owners, who have been known to leave large fortunes to their dogs after their passing.

spacer Known as the world’s richest pet and dog is Gunther IV, a German Shepherd.  The dog actually inherited the money from his father, Gunther III who was left a $124 million trust in 1992 when his owner, Countess Karlotta Lieberstein passed and he was left as the sole heir.  When Gunther III passed, the money was inherited by his son Gunther IV.  Talk about keeping it in the family!  The German Shepherd, Gunther IV, now owns a mansion in Miami previously owned by Madonna and is the owner of a rare white truffle bought at an auction.  Gunther IV has an estimated fortune of over $140 million.

Purebred Breeders LLC also found amongst the list of richest dogs are Oprah Winfrey’s, Drew Barrymore’s and a Jack Russell Terrier who played the role of ‘Eddie’ on the TV show Frasier.  Leona Helmsley, an American businesswoman and real estate entrepreneur, known as the ‘Queen of Mean’ even took her grandchildren out of her will and left her dog Trouble, a white toy Maltese Terrier, over $9 million.

Purebred Breeders nominates Tampa as the Dog Town of the month

February 3, 2012 Resource, travel One comment

Purebred Breeders nominates Tampa as February’s dog-town of the month!  Besides having incredible weather year-round, Tampa is a town that truly loves their dogs and they have plenty of things for you and your furry friend to explore if you live there or are simply visiting the area.

spacer

Due to its tropical weather, Florida is a very unique place botanically and the Florida Botanical Gardens is a wonderful place to experience all the lush gardens and colorful flora that the Tampa area has to offer.  The park has over 30 acres of cultivated gardens and 90 acres of natural areas and lots of native wildlife including turtles, alligators, great blue herons, and monarch butterflies.  Dogs are allowed at no additional fee but they may not be left unattended at any time, dogs should be leashed and cleaned up after.

The Honeymoon Island State Park is also a great location for any beach lover and their fun loving pup, it’s a beach park that was originally developed in 1939 for honeymooners hence the name.  The shells in this area are beautiful, and it’s a great way to sight see for nature lovers or snorkel and fish for water lovers.  Well-behaved dogs are welcome to enjoy the beach and must be leashed and cleaned after promptly.  Tampa is known for their amazing beaches so that’s why Purebred Breeders made sure to add this to list of things to do in this dog-friendly city; make sure to visit while you’re there.  While we’re talking beaches, pay a visit to the Paw Playground in Fort De Soto Park too, it has a small dog area, water access, dog-level water fountains and hoses to wash the dogs down.  This Paw Playground was rated in the top five must see dog parks by Pedigree in 2008.

Purebred Breeders wants to know if you have been to or live in the Tampa area and have some tips of places to go, feel free to add to the list.

A snowy white vacation might be just the thing you need to get you and your family out of the house for some fun without having to leave your four legged best friend behind!  That’s why Purebred Breeders’ pick for the top dog town of this month is Breckenridge, Colorado.  With the large amount of activities that are offered and allow your pup to join in on, Breckenridge proves to be a great dog friendly vacation town.  Whether you’re strolling in the streets or skiing down the slopes, locals everywhere are sure to have their dogs right by their side.  In this quaint little town filled with dog lovers just like you, the possibilities are endless for great vacation fun and you’ll soon come to realize that when you arrive!

Visiting Arapahoe Basin Ski area is a must whether you’re planning on going snowboarding or just want to check out the beach scene, and yes I did say beach!  A-Basin is the only resort in Colorado that has the famous Beach scene where visitors and locals alike come dressed to the nines in crazy outfits ready to grill up some hot dogs and hamburgers.

Even the pups get dressed up from time to time for the occasion!  Dogs from all over can be spotted running through the snow and chasing after snowboarders as they fly by leaving the pooches in a dust of snow.  For those who are a bit more active, many hiking excursions are available.  Most private tours that assign you your own personal guide will allow you to bring your pup on the hike as well.

spacer

Along the way you can explore the mountains while your pup enjoys the fresh air and sniffs out any new trails to follow.  The sights alone are definitely worth all the hard work once you’ve made it to the top of the mountain.  If shopping is more your forte, Breckenridge has tons of it.  The streets are lined with specialty shops of all kinds.  If you’re looking for a souvenir or even some new ski gear, these stores are sure to have it.  And the best part of all is that you can bring your pup along while walking the streets.  Most shop owners will allow you to bring them in, but always make sure to ask beforehand.  For a special store just for your pup, check out The Breckenridge Barkery for some tasty treats your pup will enjoy.  If you’re looking for some fun time just for your pooch, make sure to check out the Carter Park Dog Park.  Ranging at one full acre of fenced in space; your pup can run and play while making some new friends.

So now that you’re set on things to do, accommodations and restaurants are the next important topic.  You and your pup can breathe easy knowing that finding a pet friendly hotel will be somewhat easy to do in Breckenridge.    For a beautiful mountain view, Beaver Run is sure to please.  They are dog friendly and will treat your pup to a special snack upon arrival.  For the first dog, a $40 per night cleaning fee is set in place and you get half off on your second pup!  Dog sitters are also available on property per request.  With complimentary world class amenities for you and your pup, Beaver Run will leave you feeling completely relaxed.  Another great option is the Breckenridge Mountain Lodge.  Your pup will be welcomed with a treat and can rest by the fire for a $30 nightly fee per dog and a $150 cleaning deposit that is refunded at the end of your stay.  A few other pet friendly places to check out are The Village Hotel, The Lodge and Spa at Breckenridge, Great Divide Lodge, River’s Edge, and Wildwood Peaks just to name a few.  Great food is everywhere you look in Breckenridge as well.  Most places have outside seating with heat lamps that allow you to bring your pup and enjoy a hot meal.  Some places include the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co, Motherloaded Tavern, The Hearthstone, and many others.  If you prefer dining in while leaving your pup to relax, Blue River Bistro and Relish are fantastic restaurants with delicious fine foods.

While a beach vacation might sound like a great idea, Purebred Breeders thinks it’s probably still a bit too chilly to put on that new swimsuit.  A white snowy trip to Breckenridge, CO however could be just the answer to enjoy some great fun for the whole family and your pup.  With dog lovers all over the town, you and your pup will feel right at home from the moment you arrive until the second you leave. The many fun activities and sights to see will keep you and your pup busy for days.  So when you’re planning a getaway that will include Fido, consider Breckenridge, CO, you might not ever want to leave!

If you know of other great dog-friendly places your family can visit leave us a comment!

Purebred Breeders LLC “Why you should ID your Dog!”

November 8, 2011 Collars, Doggy ID, Safety 45 comments

Purebredbreeders.com knows for any loving dog owner, your furry friend running away is probably the most common and natural fear one might experience. Everyone sees the signs; “Max Missing; if seen, call….”. But there are many preventative measures one can take to ensure your dog will stay secure within your home and wherever you go. Among those, one of the best things you can do is to ID your dog.

ID Collars

One of the oldest and most widespread methods of IDing your dog is with ID collars. ID collars are useful for a number of reasons. Among them, it gives whoever stumbles upon your lost dog lots of information to work with. Most dog collars usually come with: your dog’s name, the owner’s cell phone number, along with who their veterinarian is and their number. With this information, it gives the finder a lot of options to try to reach the owner of the dog.

spacer Depending on the look you are going for with your pooch, there are a variety of styles from studs to flowers and everything in between like those found on Pamper My Puppy. Most collars are extremely customizable with a variety of options in sizing and fabrication. There’s washable fabric, leather, chain, adjustable sizes to mention a few of the many choices. For the less fashion conscious owners, you can get a relatively simple design with very little accoutrements. For everyone else, dog collars can be bought in all shapes and sizes at a pet store, whether you visit your small local one, or a larger chain such as PetsMart.

Microchip

Other than the traditional dog collar, there are many of ways one can go about IDing their dog. Thanks to relatively recent advances in technology, one can now actually install a tracking device in their dog, usually in their shoulder blade. The size of a grain of rice, the microchip is implanted with a needle and special syringe, the process is similar to getting a shot, which dogs do all the time. Once the microchip is implanted it is registered with the microchip company and given a numeric id. If a dog gets lost, most shelters and vet offices have the technology to scan the chip and find the contact info of the dog’s owner, reuniting families with their furry friends through this technology.

Collars with GPS tracking

The best option, however, might be a combination of the two above methods. Now on sale are dog collars with GPS trackers installed inside, saving owners the hassle of having to plant one in your dog. Although not the cheapest method available, they’re an effective combination to keep an eye on your dog’s whereabouts.

Overall, one has a lot of options when choosing how to ID their dog. Whether you’re buying it in order to keep your furry friend safe and sound, or you’re simply trying to spruce up their appearance, in the opinion of Purebred Breeders LLC dog ID’s are a great investment for any dog owner.

Purebred Breeders LLC: Fruit and Vegetable Dog Treats

Store bought dog treats are a thing of the past and can get expensive.  Some claim to help your dog’s digestive track and keep their teeth clean.  Many however, do quite the opposite.  They can cause your pup to become backed up and develop stomach problems over time.  While we’re usually being told what not to feed our dogs, no one seems to inform us of all the natural foods that we can feed our puppies.  The truth is just like people, feeding your puppy fresh organic food is always the best.  Products that are processed can be harmful and lead to weight problems.  Purebred Breeders LLC advises just picking up an extra package of carrots is much easier and cheaper than buying a small box of treats for a bigger price!

spacer Dogs are able to easily break down organic raw vegetables and meat due to their digestive system process.   They produce larger amounts of stomach acid then humans do which is why we can’t digest raw meats.  Foods sprayed with pesticides are also harmful for your puppy since they are not able to break the chemicals down easily.  Many dog treats contain unhealthy ingredients that can cause weight or allergy problems.

Your puppy can eat certain vegetables and fruits either raw, steamed, or in a juice form.   Adding some color to your puppy’s diet can really help to promote a stronger immune system and keep your puppy feeling energetic and healthy.  Instead of store-bought treats, Purebred Breeders LLC recommends giving your puppy some of these fresh fruits or veggies listed below, and don’t be afraid to check out some special recipes for your puppy either!

Apples – Contain antioxidants and pectin in the apple skins which prevents bacteria growth (do not give your dog the core or seeds)

Bananas – Great source of potassium for your puppy

Blueberries & Cranberries – Helps to prevent against urinary tract infections and are filled with antioxidants

Broccoli – Fights against cancer and contains high levels of nutrients

Carrots – Promotes healthy skin and strong eyes, also aids in digestion

Green Beans –Will keep your puppies’ heart pumping strong

Pumpkin – Very high in fiber

Sweet Potatoes – Promotes a healthy gastrointestinal tract

Watermelon – Contains the natural antioxidant lycopene to keep your puppy healthy

Papayas – Supports digestion and also great for the heart

Keeping our puppies’ healthy is always top priority.  Instead of giving them unhealthy dog snacks or treats, try switching things up a little by buying an extra package of green beans next time you’re at the grocery store.  Giving your dogs fresh fruits and vegetables will help them get that extra energy to catch the Frisbee, learn that new trick you’ve been teaching them and to keep their bodies strong. Purebred Breeders LLC wants you to remember that behind every happy puppy is a proud owner.  So keep your puppy happy and feed them some healthy fruits and veggies from your local grocery store!

Purebred Breeders: Dog Training, Teaching your Dog to Sit

Purebred Breeders Helps You Train Your Puppy To Sit

The Sit command is one of the simpler and yet most useful commands you can teach your puppy. It gives you a wonderfully easy way to control your pooch when you need to keep him in one place.

Although some dog owners may be intimidated by dog training, Purebred Breeders wants you to know that teaching your puppy what the word sit means can be quite easy and quick:

spacer

  • Show your puppy a small, bite-sized treat, holding it just a little in front of his eyes, slightly over his head.
  • Say “Sit” as you bring your hand above your puppy’s eyes, about two inches above his head
  • When your puppy looks up at the treat, he should naturally sit.

Putting your hand in the right place is important. If your hand is too high, your puppy will jump up; if it’s too low, he won’t sit.

  • When your puppy sits, give him the treat and tell him what a good doggy he is.
  • Praise him without petting him. If you pet him at the same time as you praise him, he’ll probably get up, when you really want him to sit.
  • If your dog doesn’t respond on his own, say “Sit” again then physically place him into a sit position by placing your left hand under his tail and behind his knees and your right hand on his chest, and tuck him into a sit. Keep your hands still and count to five before giving him the treat.
  • Practice having your puppy sit five times in a row for five days.

Some puppies catch on to this idea so quickly that they sit in front of their owner whenever they want a treat.

When your puppy understands what the word “Sit” means, you can start teaching him to obey your command to sit:

  • Put the treat in your right hand and keep it at your side.
  • Put one or two fingers, depending on the size of your puppy, of your left hand through the training collar at the top of his neck, palm facing up, and tell him to sit.
  • If he sits, give him a treat and tell him how good he is while taking your hand out of the collar. If he doesn’t sit, pull up on his collar and wait until he sits, and then praise and reward him with a treat.
  • Practice until your puppy sits on command — without your having to pull up on or touch the collar.
  • Give your puppy a treat and praise him for every correct response, keeping him in position to the count of five.

As your puppy continues to demonstrate that he has mastered sitting on command, start rewarding him every other time, then only rewarding him randomly for following the sit command. Believe it or not, for dogs and people, a random reward is the most powerful reinforcement for behavior.

Now when your puppy wants to greet you by jumping up, tell him to sit. When he does, praise him, scratch him under the chin, and then release him. Following this simple method consistently, you can change your puppy’s greeting behavior from trying to jump on you to a polite hello of sitting to get petted!
