U.S./Canada checked baggage
Please note: We have revised some of our checked bag policies for travel worldwide. For the latest checked baggage updates, please review all relevant baggage pages before you travel.
Updated: October 19, 2011

Below is the checked baggage policy for United Economy® travel wholly within the 50 United States, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Canada. If you are traveling on an economy ticket or an economy award ticket, please see the information below regarding checked baggage fees that may apply.

Please note that there are some fee exceptions. All fees shown below are for one direction of travel only, and apply only when checking in with United. If you will be checking in with a United codeshare partner, please contact that carrier regarding its baggage policies. Fees shown below are in U.S. dollars unless otherwise specified.

Bag fees apply at any point where bags are checked. For a trip that includes one or more connections, bags will be checked to your final destination, and the fee for checking a bag from your origin to your destination will apply. For a trip that includes a voluntary stopover, your bags will be checked to your stopover point, where you will collect your bags. When you resume travel, you may check your bags again, subject to applicable fees from the new point of check-in to the destination.

For customers who are not exempt, first and second bag fees (each way) are as follows:

First bag Second bag
$25 $35
