Notify search engines, blog ping utility, blog ping list 2009

WordPress has got a fantastic ping utility to ping blog search engines with a single click. Just think how effective it would be for your blog. When you make a post and publish it on your blog, wordpress will notify search engines with your recent posts. Isn’t it sounds interesting?

How to notify the blog search engines?

  • Download the blog ping list on your computer. (Download blog ping list)
  • Browse to your wordpress dashboard >> Settings >> Writing tab. Scroll down the page. You will notice “Update Services” textarea at the bottom of the page.

  • Copy & paste the content of pinglist.txt file here and click on “Save Changes” button.

You have nothing to worry now. Your blog posts will be indexed by different search engines automatically.

    This is a dated list and a lot of them do not work.

    There are few available in the market which can cost you few bucks. If you are having blog platform other than wordpress, you can try out pingomatic.com/ or similar kind of services.

    Dear Mr Arindam

    I’ve downloaded your ping list.

    Please excuse my non-technical stupidity.

    I tried randomly & surfed some of the list, they are not functioning …

    Do I need to join their membership ?

    How can those blogs list that allow us to “ping” our posts into their blogs, without a need to know the source of the posts ?

    Your guidance would be appreciated.

    Hello James,

    WordPress sends XML-RPC ping to popular blog search engines’ update services. You can further read update services to know more about it. Some of the update services appear to be down as they say. So they may not work. You can also try out with the list given there.

    Thanks for your suggestion on pingomatic & pingem.co.uk.

    One question to ask : If I’ve written an article and intend to ping it, can I ping through the 2 above providers ? Or only ping one of it ?

    Why I’ve this question because I’m afraid the search engines may blacklist me for posts spamming if I ping concurrently through 2 service providers and resulting double postings, ie resulting 2 exactly same articles to be posted at each side through pingomatic & pingem.co.uk. …

    Hi James,

    I can’t give you a definitive answer – you’d have to ask the individual blogging services, however I’ve never found it detrimental to ping them multiple times.

    I have a couple of blogs that automatically ping pingomatic and I’ve used Ping ‘em to do it as well without any noticeable issues. I guess if you really abused the systems by constantly sending pings, they’d either start ignoring your requests for a period of time or blacklist you.

    For blogger, i’m not sure if any such module is there. But you can use manually www.pingoat.com/ each time you make your post. You can try out Windows Live Writer at windowslivewriter.spaces.live.com/

    I recommend blogspot-ping.com because is the only Web service which offers a completely automatic ping service for Blogger
