Spanish Prisoners: Downtown Chicagoland
It’s actually sunny and not 25 degrees in Chicago (REJOICE). To commemorate the bright day of weekend recouping, I present Spanish Prisoners, a shoegazer-synth indie band hailing from the mean streets of Brooklyn. Side question(s) – are musicians okay with being coined “shoegazers” and are the streets of Brooklyn still mean? Named not after the confidence trick but the cult film, this quintet are certainly going to be force within the blogosphere just as soon as they get a van via their current Kickstarter effort. Downtown Chicago-land is a whimsical, sunny yet cold piece, while the PE1000 version (my personal favorite) has a more shoe tapping, grime-pop feel. Their album is a self-described “soundtrack to this directionless fishbowl of thick superficial infinite”, and you can check out most of it here. Spanish Prisoners will be playing Austin for SXSW and I will definitely be there to welcome them… see you there? Props to Dead Journalist for the recommendation.

Niki & The Dove: The Fox
Star Fox + Nature + Hallucinogens. This is my initial reflection on Niki & The Dove’s new video for “The Fox”. Created by Seattle-based production collective WINTR, it is a thoughtful, trippy, spirited, visually stunning narrative of a woman-fox hybrid in free fall, transforming into a different being with every 1,000 feet. Since this description will probably give you a head ache without watching the video, I recommend it. Props to Neon Gold Beat Company a always.

Denny White: Skinny Love (Bon Iver Cover)
Ladies and gentlemen, it’s one of Kick Kick Snare’s favorites, Denny White! If you follow KKS closely you’ll know Denny has performed at a couple of our events, and we just think the world of him. Of course,
then you’d also know his upcoming LP is something we are all anxious to get sneak peaks at, but have thus far been unsuccessful! Access to downloads and recordings may be sealed tightly, but rest assured we’ve got ninja plans to break into his recording studio and retrieve them for our damn selves. Happily, until that top secret KKS heist is successful, we at least have some videos to entice you–starting with this recent cover of recent GRAMMY winner Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love.” There’s no denying Denny’s talent and passion for music. That special blend is pleasing to the ear, but it is also one that entertains the eyes as you watch this enthralling musician define himself as an emotional artist in front of those 88 keys.

The Pierces: Kathy’s Song (Simon and Garfunkel Cover)
The Pierce sisters from Birmingham, Alabama are triple threats… talented, purdy, and oh so stylish. Plus, they’ve got the gift of kin harmony! There’s nothing like it and this video is a shining example of it. Here the sisters cover Kathy’s Song for Channel 4′s Live at Abbey Road. They look so gorgeous and the acapella performance is goose pimple worthy. It’s a nice, serene way to kick off the weekend before you pop bottles and make it rain in da club and all the usual weekend warrior stuff. The US release of their album You & I is slated for March 27th and will coincide with their appearance on Jay Leno.

[VIDEO] Daley: Alone Together (ft. Marsha Ambrosius)
Daley has been working his very handsome little ginger self very hard in the UK from providing the vocals on the stellar track ‘Domcamatic‘ by the Gorillaz, working with Wretch32 on a track collaboration, to performing on Sunday Night Live and BBC Sessions and of course his first release, the 8 track mini-LP, Those Who Wait. He has also just finished his new music video for ‘Alone Together’, which is a beautifully shot, light soaked sweet love story. The free mini-LP is still up for download at his official site. If you are looking for beautiful vocals, soulful melodies and honest prose then you should head right over and download the Mini-LP for yourself.
