Our Mission

Global Washington is a broad-based membership association that promotes and supports the global development sector in the state of Washington.  Composed of non-profit organizations, foundations, businesses, government and academic institutions, our members work collectively to build a more equitable and prosperous world.  Global Washington convenes members to generate new opportunities for growth, strengthens member organizations to increase their impact, and advocates across key global development issues at the local, national, and global level.

Our Vision

Our vision is for the state of Washington to be a recognized center of influential and innovative global development activity where diverse groups work collectively to build a more equitable and prosperous world.

The Opportunity

The global development sector in Washington is composed of five groups: business, academic, non-profit, foundation and government, all working to improve the social, economic, health and environmental conditions of the world’s poor.  These sectors cluster around four issue areas: Economic Development & Poverty Alleviation, Global Health, Education & Global Engagement and Climate, Environment & Agriculture.  The programs and services offered by the diverse organizations within these sectors contribute significantly to meeting challenging development needs around the world and include: direct service delivery, capacity building, education and training, research, advocacy, product development, corporate citizenship and philanthropy.

Too often, organizations dedicated to global development lack the support they need to benefit from the advantages they share by being co-located in Washington. Global Washington has been established to fill this need.
