Sirus' MIC/Speakers dont work properly
There is a known problem with the mic sensitivity of Sirus in USB mode being notably weaker than in 3.5mm mode. Until the problem has been resolved, please set the mic sensitivity to 100% in USB mode or switch to 3.5mm mode.
First of all please use the bundled 3.5mm audio jack cable and connect it to your Soundcards or Motherboards audio ports. Please check if your MIC and Sirus Headset works now. Increase the MICs sensitivty and the speakers Volume using the Windows Audio Console (double click on the speaker icon in the system tray)
If the MIC/Headset doesnt work, please make sure you have selected it as default Audio Recording/Playback Device:
- Open the Windows Audio Console
- Click on Options -> Properties
- Select "Recording/Playback"
- Next to the "Mixer Device" the console should display the name of your Soundcard or Motherboard Integrated Sound Controller. If it doesnt, then please click on this field and select it manually from the drop down menu.
If the MIC/Headset works fine now, but you want to use the Tactical Mixing Console, please follow these steps:
- Connect the tactical mixing console's USB plugs and check if the MIC still works.
- If it doesnt, then please check if it is set as the default Recording/Playback Device in the Windows Audio Console, it should now say "USB Sound Device" next to "Mixer Device". If it doesnt, then please manually set it to "USB Sound Device".
- If the MIC still doesnt work, please launch the Sirus Driver Tool and left click on the Microphone/Speaker icon on the left. Make sure the MIC-IN Volume is at least at 80%, and the Speaker Icon below the volume bars is not crossed out. If it is crossed out, click on it to enable the MIC. Right click on the Speaker Icon and make sure Sirus is set to 5.1 Surround Sound and has Surround Max enabled. Make sure all Channels are set to the highest volume and the Master Channel is not disabled (crossed out speaker icon below the volume bar)
If your MIC/Headset still doesnt work properly, please submit a support ticket and mention the results of these tests. A few early Sirus Headsets shipped with badly calibrated MICs resulting in poor MIC performance in USB mode.
Im having problems with Sirus under Microsoft Vista
The real problem is, you are using Windows Vista :)
Joking aside:
Please upgrade to Service Pack2 or later and install the following hotfixes:
• support.microsoft.com/kb/943599
• support.microsoft.com/kb/953228
If you're still experiencing issues please submit a ticket in the support section of this site
Do I have to connect both USB connectors?
No, but for optimal sound quality, especially strong bass, we recommend to use both USB plugs.
On newer mainboards that provide enough USB power a single connector may be enough to completely max out the sound, but as with most things in life: two are better than one! :)
I cant find the advanced menus in the Sirus Driver
Our engineers did an excellent job at hiding them from the less witted minds out there that couldnt handle all the power and control. To access the advanced menus right click on the speaker or microphone icons on the left and then select any of the advanced menus
How do I change the earpads and Headband cushion?
Carefully pop off the earpads on your Sirus headset and pull them off the plastic frame. You can now pull the second set of earpads over the frame and then click them on. Dont force things and make sure you are using the right part on the right side of the headset instead.
To remove the Headband cushion, use a soft plastic card or tool and push it between the headsets bow and the headband cushion to carefully lever it off. Dont force it, if it gets stuck or doesnt move, try to push it out at another point instead.
Are the earpads and headband cushion machine washable?
Yes! we wont replace worn out or damaged parts though, so treat them with care :)
We recommend to wash them in a laundry bag so they dont get damaged or stolen by the underpants gnomes.
Whats the difference between the Dual USB and 3.5mm Jack cables?
The USB Plugs are rectangular and 3.5mm jacks are round... :)
There, now that we got the basics out of the way, here are the details:
If you want to use the Tactical mixing console to adjust channels and control Sirus on the fly within a game or movie, use the Dual USB cable hooked up to the Tactical mixing console.
If you dont care about the advanced features and want the best audio period, and are the proud owner of a dedicated 5.1 surround sound capable soundcard, use the bundled 3.5mm jack cable and connect sirus directly to your soundcard.
If you cant make up your mind, connect both cables to your PC and connect Sirus to whichever your currently feel like using and swap between them based on the situation (tactical vonsole for games, 3.5mm jacks for movies or music)
How can I use Sirus with my Xbox360/PS3?
Unfortunately Consoles dont support standard USB Audio devices, and dont offer standard surround sound output, which means Sirus does currently NOT work on any Console.
But fear not! In the not too distant future you will be able to use a little CM Storm Gadget to convert your Sirus into a universal console headset and make it work on Consoles, so stay tuned!
Why is Sirus a "true" 5.1 surround sound headset?
Games and Movies with surround sound support create seperate audio signals for each channel.
On a virtual or FAKE surround sound headsets which only features 2 drivers (speakers), all those channels are mixed together and then sent to one speaker for each ear. This kind of defeats the purpose of surround sound, doesnt it?
Sirus features 4 seperate drivers (speakers) on each side, which are positioned inside the large ear pieces to create an actual surround sound environment within the earcups. On sirus every audio channel has its dedicated driver (speaker) creating a clearer and richer surround environment.
Whats the point of adjusting audio on-the-fly with the tactical mixing console?
The most important point is the option to silence or reduce the volume of the center channel. You can reduce or mute sounds such as your own footsteps, gunshots, audio commands etc to be able to better focus on other sounds around you!
Another benefit of having on-the-fly access to your surround sound channels is the option to quickly turn up or turn down the master volume, the sub/bass volume or invidiual channels based on the game you are playing or the movie you are watching. bump up the bass to hear footsteps for example, and then reduce its volume before you sneak around the corner and a loud firefight erupts.
Last but not least, every Game uses a different Audio engine and sound effects. Just like graphics and physics vary a lot between games, so does audio. Thanks to the tactical mixing console you can tweak and adjust the volume of each channel on-the-fly instead of constantly leaving the game to adjust the audio driver console and returning to the game to check if it sounds better or worse.
When I use Sirus I get an "USB out of bandwidth" or "excessive bandwidth" error.
Remember, Sirus is a 5.1 surround headset which means there are 8 seperate sound channels that need to be fed, plus a mic channel. To avoid this error shuffle your USB devices around so Sirus has its own USB host controller. Mainboards usually have 2-4 USB connectors in a row which are controlled by the same controller. Avoid using USB hubs that you may find on keyboards and other peripherals which shares USB bandwidth.
Surround sound doesnt seem to work properly
If you use the tactical mixing console, please install the latest driver and make sure you set Sirus to 5.1 surround sound. Open the Sirus Driver, right click on the speaker icon on the left and select "speaker settings". Make sure Sirus is set to "5.1 Surround" and "Surround Max" is enabled for the ultimate surround sound experience.
Does Sirus work on a Mac?
Yes! Sirus is not officially supported and might not work on all Mac OS versions and systems.
Advanced features available through the Sirus Control Panel application will obviously not be available, but the Headset does work in both USB and 3.5mm modes. In USB mode the Tactical Mixing Console is fully function and lets you adjust the volume of each channel and mute the mic or headset.
Note that on some Mac Systems Sirus is not set as the default Audio device after plugging in the USB connectors. In this case you will have to manually choose Sirus as the default audio device in the Mac OS control panel, in the Audio category.
