By the year 2050, people with skin of color (including Africans, African Americans, Asians, Native Americans and Hispanics) will represent more than half of the U.S. population. Little data exists on the structural, functional, and clinical properties in skin of color. The Hampton University Skin of Color Research Institute (HUSCRI) was established to advance the research and treatment of skin diseases that primarily affect people with skin of color and is the first of its kind in Virginia and at an historically black college or university.

Mission

Our mission is to conduct research, build and disseminate knowledge and create educational forums in order to improve the understanding and treatment of skin disorders that uniquely affect people with skin of color.
