SHOSTAKOVICH: Symphony No. 8 in C minor, Op. 65

SymphonyCast
Saturday at 5 p.m. on SymphonyCast it's the The Philadelphia Orchestra.

Guest conductor Peter Oundjian returns to Philadelphia for a sprightly symphony by Schubert, a seldom-heard virtuosic showpiece by Weber, and the swirling score that proves once and for all that Sergei Rachmaninoff was a master of more than just flashy piano concertos.

Peter Oundjian, conductor; Daniel Matsukawa, bassoon.

SCHUBERT: Symphony No. 5
WEBER: Bassoon Concerto
RACHMINOFF: Symphonic Dances

World of Opera
Saturday at 9 p.m. on World of Opera join us for Send (who are you? I love you) by Michael John LaChiusa and The Human Voice by Francis Poulenc.

Tony Award-winning Broadway star Audra McDonald takes to the opera house in a true tour-de-force -- a one-woman double-bill! In Poulenc's classic one-acter, McDonald's nameless character struggles to save a dying romance over the telephone. In the world premiere of LaChiusa's Send, she plays a woman trying to fan the romantic flame in a more up-to-date fashion -- over the Internet.

Houston Grand Opera: Ted Sperling, conductor
Cast: Audra McDonald (singing the single roles in both operas)

Minnesota Orchestra
Join us Monday at 9 p.m. in SymphonyHall for the Minnesota Orchestra.

Osmo Vanska, conductor; Emanuel Ax, piano

MOZART: Overture to The Magic Flute, K. 620
MOZART: Piano Concerto No. 27, K. 595
AHO: Symphony No. 7, Insect Symphony

"Nevada listeners are so lucky to have Classical KCNV. Although my wife and I only moved to the area two weeks ago we were so pleased to find Classical 89.7 that we felt we had to immediately become supporters. I hope everyone reading this realizes how important it is to support local classical public radio."

Why do you listen?
