Children suffering from the most common form of brain tumor affecting younger Americans accomplished a major victory this weekend, with adoption into law of a provision giving the National Institutes of Health one year to develop a plan to speed the pace of research into the disease. The measure also addresses a number of long-standing technical obstacles that researchers say have stymied the development of more effective, less toxic treatments.

NCI AWARDS DFCI $7.5 FOR PLGA RESEARCH
The Dana Farber Cancer Institute's recent grant application to the NCI entitled "Therapeutic Opportunities for Pediatric Low Grade Astrocytoma" was approved for funding in March 2011. This unprecedented move for the NCI marks a milestone in government funded pediatric low grade astrocytoma/glioma research initiatives

Now, Rex has been nominated for the 2012 Uplifting Athletes Rare Disease Champion Award. Tyler was diagnosed with a brainstem JPA in 2010, having already lost his grandfather to a brain tumor at a young age, he and his family are determined to bring awareness and raise funds to make sure that a cure for Brain Tumors is found. Team Tyler joined the PLGA foundation’s efforts in its 2011 Geared Up For Kids Ride raising much needed funds to drive new cutting edge research initiatives.
