Dennis Owsley has been hosting a weekly radio show on KWMU radio since April 23, 1983. Dennis has been a jazz record (and now CD) collector, aficionado and historian since 1958 and has seen most of the major artists in jazz in live performance since that time.

Owsley has a new book out called City of Gabriels--the Jazz History of St. Louis 1895-1973. See a schedule of his book signings.

Nearly all of the music heard on “Jazz Unlimited” is from Dennis' personal collection. In addition, Dennis is gaining an international reputation as a photographer of jazz musicians.

Many times, the best jazz recordings are made live, in the moment in jazz clubs.  This three part series presents jazz musicians recorded live in intimate contact with their audiences.  The clubs featured during this series are found all over the world, from Singapore to London.  West Coast clubs will be featured on this show.

November 26- Jazz Recorded Live in Clubs: Part 3 (Three Hours)
Many times, the best jazz recordings are made live, in the moment in jazz clubs.  This three part series presents jazz musicians recorded live in intimate contact with their audiences.  The clubs featured during this series are found all over the world, from Singapore to London.  New York Clubs will be featured on this show.

December 3-Big Bands (First Hour)
Our monthly big band hour will feature soloists Toshiko Akiyoshi, Bunny Berigan, Bob Brookmeyer, Coleman Hawkins, Jimmy Knepper, Clark Terry, Joe Williams and Phil Woods with various big bands.

December 10-Jazzman of History-Teddy Wilson (First Hour)
Pianist Teddy Wilson was a musicians' musician who worked with nearly all of the great swing players.  We will feature him on solo and piano trio recordings and also with Billie Holiday, Benny Goodman, Benny Carter, Lester Young and Charlie Parker.

December 17-Clark Terry (Three Hours)
One of our musical treasures, St. Louisan Clark Terry has had a career that began with Dewey Jackson on the St. Louis riverboats in 1938 and continues today with stops on the George Hudson, Charlie Barnett, Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Tonight Show Orchestras along with his own groups.  He is also an outstanding jazz educator.

December 24- Annual Winter Holiday Show (Three Hours)
Each year, many cultures across the world celebrate the return of sunlight after the winter solstice.  This Sunday, Jazz Unlimited will feature music suggestive of the season.

December 31- Giants of Jazz (Three Hours)
Jazz Giants are those musicians whose individuality makes them instantly recognizable by their sound.  This Sunday, we play the music of some of the Jazz Giants for November and December. These musicians include Nat Adderley, Dave Brubeck, Ray Bryant, Hampton Hawes, John Hicks, Sheila Jordan, Roger Kellaway, Benny Moten, Phineas Newborn, Anita O'Day, Woody Shaw, Matthew Shipp, Jimmy Smith, Willie "The Lion" Smith, Billy Strayhorn, Steve Turre, McCoy Tyner and Tony Williams.
