6 Good, Gay Movies The Oscars Ignored This Year.

    Thursday, February 23, 2012 | Published in Gay Issues/Rights, Movies, That's Gay

spacer Even with all the great things said about Pariah, the film was ignored by the voting committee of the 2012 Academy Awards. My Google search for “Pariah Oscars” returned with articles like ‘Why the Oscars Should Cast Out The Help and Welcome Pariah‘ and ‘The Help vs Pariah: Which Deserves Oscar Love.’

The movie tells the story of a 17-year-old girl drowned in family disparity as she announces to the world she is a proud lesbian. Here’s a preview of the film:

    GAY BLACK HISTORY: Bayard Rustin.

Thursday, February 23, 2012 | Published in Gay Black History Month

    spacer

Bayard Rustin, activist for both LGBT and civil rights, is most known for organizing the March on Washington where Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered the infamous ‘I Have A Dream’ speech. But long before working to develop Martin into a beacon of hope for blacks in America, Bayard Rustin had already organized peaceful protest on three continents.

In January 1954 police arrested Bayard and two other men after finding them on a deserted street in the middle of the night committing “lewd vagrancy.” Those against equal/civil rights taunted Bayard’s past whenever they could. However that didn’t stop him from demanding equality for all. Inspired by Gandhi, many believe many of the protests led during Bayard’s lifetime would have crumbled without his involvement.

Bayard died in 1987 following complications from hernia surgery. His legacy lives on through many LGBT and social equality centers bearing his name.

Below is a clip from the award-winning documentary about his life Brother Outsider where you can see Bayard in action:

GAY TV: Logo Announce Less-Gayer Shows to Satisfy Big Corporations.

Wednesday, February 22, 2012 | Published in Gay Issues/Rights, Iz you serious??

    spacer

Oh… so you thought the purpose of LOGO airing was to bring gay tv to the main stream? SIKE YA MIND! Us gays aren’t bringing in the advertising dollars (for Viacom, the company that owns them); so, it’ll be less gayer tv shows so the big corporations can make it rain.

Their excuse, according to general manager Lisa Sherman, is you can get your gay fix on Glee or any show on Bravo… so why must they suffer?

A producer on LOGO’s staff confirmed it, saying “They need to appeal to a broader audience to get the numbers up, so they can charge more for ad revenues.”

If you care to watch a dog makeover show, now you can watch LOGO instead of Animal Planet! #WINNING

Kenya Michaels threw shade to Madame LaQueer because she wasn’t reppin’ Puerto Rico to the utmost fierceness. The other queens were tired of the complaints about her ankle. So many other excuses to list… but hey, she’s gone now! In Madame LaQueer’s exit interview she remembers the good ole days and tells why she’s a Chad Michaels stan.

Madame had a great run, her favorite memory on the show being the wrestling challenge, which she won. “It brought back memories because, as a child, I was a big fan of the WWE. Chad [Michaels] did a great job, we worked well together.”

BANNED: Gay Coupled Denied Use of State Property for Commitment Ceremony

Wednesday, February 22, 2012 | Published in Bon Qui Qui PLEASE call security, Gay Issues/Rights

“We’re not actually getting married; we’re just committing ourselves to one another. There is no paperwork,” Stephen Walters tells The Clarion Ledger. ”I don’t know what the difference is between our scenario and a barbeque.”

Stephen and his boo thang Kevin Garrad reached out to the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum to host their commitment ceremony and were denied. But, why?

“We were turned away for being homosexual,” said Garrard. “I understand that it is illegal for gay people to get married, but it shouldn’t be illegal for us to love each other.”

A rep for the museum said the couple is attempting to host a fake marriage and it ain’t happening boo. Not under his watch! “Commitment events, as far as the state goes, are a representation of a union, and state law says that a union can only be between a man and a woman.”

My take on the whole situation… they want us to pay taxes but not be able to use what we pay for the ONE freakin’ time in life anybody would probably be at the museum? Girl, bye. I want my money back. NOW.
