Cup A Joe joined the Timberlyne Shopping Center in March 1995. Situated next door to the Chelsea Theatre, Cup A Joe made its home among other independently owned businesses in the center, including Sage Vegetarian Cafe and Margaret’s Cantina.
Although the longstanding coffeehouse may always be known as Cup A Joe to those in the neighborhood, we are in the process of renaming it Joe Van Gogh, integrating it with the rest of our shops under the roastery name – a name that better conveys our approach and commitment to coffee. Despite the name change, it remains the same great-tasting coffee and the same special spot to Chapel Hill coffee drinkers.
Renovations are taking place as we continue our evolution to better serve our customers.

Want a fun way to learn more about coffee? Then join us as we gather around the table for a blind tasting of some delicious Joe Van Gogh coffees! You’ll sip and slurp your way to discovering how the pros sample their coffees over an informal session with some of your favorite baristas while chatting about all things coffee. No experience necessary, just bring your taste buds and join in! It’s free!
