Creating a Digital Strategy
Creating a Digital Strategy for your business/brand is an essential first step in online success. Shooting in the dark is just not going to cut it.
Unfortunately, many people confuse a digital campaign with digital strategy. Justin Hartman nailed this problem brilliantly in his article “Digital strategy in SA simply doesn’t exist”
The good news is that “getting it right” really is not rocket science – it just requires some careful research, and some dedicated thinking with a pen and paper in hand.
Although I will be the first one to recommend that you work with professionals who really understand the space, I will also tell you that your best chance of success is if YOU understand the space really well, so that you can evaluate, adjust and improve the strategy as it is being formulated. And I suggest that you stop focussing on Technology and start focussing on the strategy. Big difference.
To that end, there are some amazing resources online for you to sink your teeth into. I suggest you have a look at these:
- Red ant’s “Digital Strategy Whitepaper“ : provides businesses with a thorough, practical, 50-page toolkit for digital engagement, encompassing planning, creation, actualisation and evaluation
- Quirk’s (now updated) e-marketing textbook. Free to download, which is a R500 value!
