We will be inviting City and park officials to ask questions about their service to you, their constituents, and listen to your inquiries about recreation, parks and open space.

Throughout 2010 -2011, Neighborhood Parks Council will be hosting a series of four Park Town Halls to hear your views about managing our parks, get your creative solutions to challenges, and identify concerns BEFORE park decisions are made by officispacer als.

As San Francisco’s premier park advocacy organization, we have heard your desire to have more access to park decision makers outside of formal City-run meetings and to discuss park issues in advance of decisions. NPC is hosting these town halls and inviting City and park officials to come and listen so that issues, concerns and solutions can be identified by neighbors without the pressure of a City-run hearing.

NPC is hosting these town halls as an independent non-profit to hear from park users and to inform our advocacy. NPC has invited elected and appointed officials, including district supervisors and park commissioners, along with recreation and park department staff to hear your comments and concerns. NPC encourages meeting attendees to bring ideas and creative solutions to improve our parks and will publish the notes from the meeting on our website, as well as submit them to the Recreation and Park Department and City Hall.

The scope of each meeting will be citywide, but the location will rotate over the course of the year.

City budget planning for FY 2011-12 begins in January and our parks and recreation system will once again face budget cuts. Now is the time to plan for our park system’s future. Now is the time to discuss what our priorities are and potential future issues. In addition to identifying challenges, we want to hear the community’s ideas of how to solve outreach challenges, appropriately raise revenue, and improve maintenance.

NPC is partnering with San Francisco Parks Trust to raise awareness about the Park Town Hall series.

Pastries and coffee for the Town Hall meetings provided by Arizmendi Bakery and Peets Coffee.
