News: AOpen DSW1812P 18x Triple Format DVD Rewriter @ PCstats

Posted by: Tolemac on Fri Nov 17 2006 15:31 pm EST Comments (0)

"The AOpen 18x Triple Format DVD Rewriter (DSW1812P) is one of the few recordable DVD drives on that market that supports every single recordable DVD format there is - we're talking DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RAM, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, DVD+R Dual Layer and DVD-R Dual Layer. But wait, that's not all! With the AOpen DSW1812P drive you also get the Chameleon Bezel, AOpens' mysterious "Silent Technology" and fabled UDMA66 transfer speeds! And if you act now, AOpen will also include CD-R, CD-RW, and regular CD-ROM compatibility!!!"

OCZ Technology Unveils the XTC (Xtreme Thermal Convection) Memory Cooler

“To address the requirements of extreme overclockers OCZ is releasing the new XTC cooler which is designed to pair up with the Xtreme Thermal Convection heatspreaders utilized on our entire lineup of premium memory solutions,” commented Alex Mei, OCZ Technology Group, Inc. “This cooler forces airflow through our open Xtreme Thermal Convection heatspreader design to offload even more heat from the entire module array, thus enhancing both stability and performance of the memory, especially when aggressively overclocking.”

News: Corsair's Dominator memory modules @ Tech Report

Posted by: Tolemac on Fri Nov 17 2006 15:29 pm EST Comments (0)

WE DON'T COVER MEMORY much here at TR-it's largely a commodity product; performance doesn't vary between modules running at the same speed and timings; and true overclocking potential is difficult to quantify with a limited sample size. However, when we spotted Corsair's innovative new Dominator memory modules and cooler at Computex, we knew we had to get our hands on a set to test. At the time, the DIMMs were running at an effective 1224MHz with surprisingly reasonable 5-5-5-15 timings and what appeared to be relatively simple air cooling.

Cooling is the crux of Corsair's new Dominator modules, and there's more to the equation than forced airflow and a flashy clip-on heatsink. The actual DIMM design has been tweaked for more effective heat dissipation, allowing for higher speeds with tighter timings than we've seen from other DDR2 modules. Read on to see just how far we were able to push Corsair's Dominators and what it takes to keep them cool.

News: ATI Radeon X1950 Pro vs. Nvidia GeForce 7900GS @ TechSpot

Posted by: Tolemac on Fri Nov 17 2006 15:28 pm EST Comments (0)

It's quite often that we find ATI and Nvidia rebadging their products. As it happens many times, relaunching an existing graphics card with a new name, tweaked settings and a better price point can do wonders. While there are many examples of successfully rebadged products, there are also those that have gone wayward.

Today we will be taking an in-depth look into two of those "new" products, as both use parts handed down from existing current generation products, namely ATI's Radeon X1950 Pro and the Nvidia GeForce 7900GS.

Both of these cards fall into the $200 price bracket, and as fairly revised products that they are, we certainly expect a raging battle for the crown of the best mainstream graphics card in the market.

Fatal1ty in rAge - Spending time with the World's Best Gamer

"Fatal1ty proves consistently why he is the best, with his undying dedication and commitment to the gaming community in general. I approached John and asked him if he would be interested to play all the worlds leading players in an exclusively hyped event to see where he stands right now - he said, yes he would love to invite them all for a gaming LAN, but not to compete, rather to do a blood drive. Totally caught off guard, I had to ask him to elaborate. He explained that he would invite them to give blood at the LAN to bolster the depleted blood-banks in most countries. This kind of road trip would be an awesome event and anybody interested in helping push something like this, please contact the Fatal1ty website."

“Well it's that time again, a new console has arrived and everyone wants to get their hands on it. This time it is Sony with the Playstation 3. Sony's PS3 features a Blu-ray player, Bluetooth wireless controllers, built in WiFi, and a 40 or 60 GB hard drive. With all of the excitement and stores shipments getting cut, and cut again only a handful of people would be getting the system on launch day. For this reason the die-hard Sony fans and people looking to make money selling the system on e-bay headed to their local stores to camp out and be the first in line to get the system.”

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about the Playstation 3

The PS3 was released on November 11, 2006 in Japan. It will be released on November 17, 2006 in the United States and Canada, and in March, 2007 in Europe and Australasia. It will ship in two initial configurations. Sony officially unveiled the PS3 to the public on May 16, 2005 during an E3 conference. A functional version of the console was not at E3 2005 or the Tokyo Game Show in September 2005, although at both events, demonstrations were held on devkits (e.g. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots) and comparable PC hardware, and video footage based on the predicted PS3 specifications was produced (e.g. Mobile Suit Gundam). It was not until E3 2006 that games were shown on actual PlayStation 3 systems. In preparation for launch, Sony demonstrated 27 playable PS3 titles during the Tokyo Game Show in September 2006 on final hardware.
