Dogfish Head brews official beer of Pearl Jam Twenty: Faithfull Ale

UPDATE: Pearl Jam fans’ lobbying may have led to partnership
(Milton, DE) – Beer and music mesh in a way that can’t be understated. Look no further than the dozens of dual-themed beer and music festivals across the country. Or the mini-music venue that Lagunitas Brewing just built and opened. Or Sierra Nevada Brewing’s desire to take its Phish fest beer to a broader audience. Or Pabst Blue Ribbon’s rise as the official beer of hipsters.
And then there is Dogfish Head.
In early 2010, the brewery allied with Sony Legacy to produce a beer to commemorate the anniversary of famed jazz musician, Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew.
Earlier this year, the brewery worked with Sony Legacy to release a beer to commemorate the 100th birthday of bluesman, Robert Johnson, called Hellhound on My Ale.
With the release of Pearl Jam Twenty this week, the opportunity was all too ripe for the taking.
Though the name, Faithfull Ale, may lend a different tune, Dogfish Head has formed a partnership with Columbia Records (unconfirmed) to create a beer to go with Pearl Jam’s simultaneous record / dvd / book release. Columbia is the record label for the album and dvd. Faithfull is also the name of a song that appeared on Pearl Jam’s Yield in 1998.
Details on the beer’s release are non-existent at the moment but here’s the label copy:
Faithfull Ale is a celebration of Pearl Jam’s 20th anniversary and their seminal album Ten – In recognition of these milestones this Belgian-style golden ale is delicately hopped to 20 IBUs and fruit-forward from 10 incremental additions of black currants over the course of the one hour boil. 7% ABV.
The label indicates that Faithfull Ale will be packaged in 750ml bottles.
An obligatory word of caution: label approvals do not always lead to released beers…but 99% of the time, they do.
[Press time is approximately 1am EST here on the East Coast so no chance for comment from the brewery.]
