Hedda Gabler Preview

Get your tickets now for the theatre program's latest production, Hedda Gabler.

Referred by some critics as the story of a female Hamlet, Hedda Gabler is the tragic tale of a woman trapped in a troubled marriage. But when she manipulates her husband to create the life she wants, she finds herself ill-prepared to face the results of her treachery.

"On the most basic level, the play Hedda Gabler asks the audience to consider what it must be like to feel completely and utterly trapped," explained Professor Paul Ricciardi, who directs the play. "The character, Hedda Gabler, feels trapped by the life that has been thrust upon her. I find how Hedda Gabler navigates this prison to be very, very compelling."

Costumes play a big part in the production, transporting audience members to another era.

"The costumes for our production of Hedda Gabler are not heavy, detailed, museum-like representations of the Victorian Era," explained Professor Denise Massman, chair of the Creative Arts Department. "They reflect the silhouette, by use of the corset, long skirts and bustles, but more importantly speak to the literal and physical entrapment of women and society, which is at the core of Ibsen's story."

Hedda Gabler runs from Feb. 23-26 and March 1-3. Performances are at 8 p.m. in the theatre in Foy Hall. A matinee performance also will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 26.

Tickets are $2 for the Siena community; $8 for non-Siena students and senior citizens; $10 for the general public.

The play features Dylan Lukowski, Kelsea Dineen, Marah Chabot, Jennifer Cullen, Christian Leahy, Shayne Peris, Emily Scimeca, Catlin Flaherty serves as stage manager.
