Wink Helps You Find People

Want to find scrabble players in Brooklyn? Or perhaps fans of the theremin in San Francisco? Or how about a professional rodeo clown in Montana… Knitters in Arcadia? Everyone who wants to be Borat?

Then Wink people search is for you.

Wink now searches social networks including MySpace, LinkedIn, and Bebo. (We’ll be adding more all the time.) The idea here is to help people find what they’re looking for by using social media tools as the means to derive relevancy.

So, with Wink, you can search the web or find people who are on the web. We hope that this will help to bring people closer together, no matter where they are on the web.

Have fun and please let us know what you think!

Wink Collections now support YouTube video and other rich media.

Wink Collections are a cool way for you to organize and share the best links on any topic. A collection can be about anything - funny videos, your favorite band, the best restaurants in your area, or research on a new gadget - you name it. You create a collection and add links to it and it shows up in search results. Others can add links to the Collection - a great way to share.

Now, instead of collections just being links to items, you can experience the rich media right on the collection page. That means watching YouTube videos right in line, rather than just linking to them. We will be enabling support for other media types and sources as quickly as we can, and welcome your suggestions.

Check out the examples to the right.
Here are several ways to enjoy collections:

Tell us how you use collections and give us your ideas for improvements.

Cheers,
Michael

Defining YouTube

Online magazine, Slate, recently presented a story about YouTube and compiled a list of YouTube defining videos… Here are the videos all in one place. Plus a few more that I think they missed. YouTube is an amazing thing and they owe it all to Flash and copyright infringement… As Negativland says, “Copyright infringement is your best entertainment value.” I don’t think the YouTube dudes could argue with that.

Wink’s Collections are new and improved… now fortified with YouTube and Google Video. Just add a bookmark from these sites, and the embeded video will appear in the collection. There’s more like this to come with collections, so don’t touch that dial.
