Watch the trailer below:
Nikola Tesla’s riveting, peculiar life provides the inspiration for Mugwumpin’s newest original performance about ambition, transcendence, and the terrible price of genius. His inventive output rivaled Thomas Edison, and his spectacular scientific demonstrations enraptured the likes of Mark Twain. Yet his life ended in poverty, with the pigeons outside his window as his only companions. Rather than a biographical drama, Future Motive Power will weave fragments of biography, fiction, science demonstration, and magic show into a performative fever dream.
Mugwumpin is only the second performance group to use the Old Mint as a venue, following Joe Goode Performance Group’s “Traveling Light.” However, whereas Goode primarily utilized the gorgeous building’s opulent upper floors, Mugwumpin will occupy the much grittier vault level, rarely seen by guests to the building.
