Due to Premarin production, thousands of mares live in horribly unnatural conditions & their foals are excess by-product. Although many healthier alternatives exist that provide supplemental estrogen from plant sources, Pfizer continues to use mares. Inform  friends  about the cost to the mares & foals involved in Premarin production, and make sure they know perfectly good alternatives are widely available.

Since 1945, the SCCHA has been a center for equestrian activities in and around Santa Cruz, California. Its colorful history includes many generations of horse enthusiasts competing in shows, clinics, blazing - maintaining - riding redwood and coastal trails,  and all forms of equitation, while promoting quality care, education and humane treatment of horses.

Home of the SCCHA has long been Graham Hill Showgrounds, just north of Santa Cruz.

A monthly Newsletter is full of Club news, local horse related items, entertaining & educating articles, and events calendar.

SCCHA is the home of the famed Fireworks Endurance Ride,
an annual, sanctioned endurance ride through the redwoods to the ocean. Trails comprising this ride are spectacular and often rugged as horse & rider travel through and descend from the forested Santa Cruz Mountains towards expansive views of blue ocean north of Santa Cruz.

Membership Meetings are held at the Clubhouse on the 3rd Tuesday evening of each month (unless otherwise listed on our web site and newsletter). Meetings have guest speakers covering a variety of engaging topics and equestrian news that affect all horse people locally. Meetings are also a great way to meet horse folks and find trail companions. We also process memberships on the spot at these meetings.
Non-members welcome!

The best thing I try to do for myself is to try to listen to the horse.
I don't mean let him take over.
I listen to how he's operating: what he's understanding or what he doesn't understand: what's bothering him and what isn't bothering him.  I try to feel what the horse is feeling and operate from where the horse is.
