Beauty Confession: How do you change up your beauty routine with Daylight Savings?

    spacer

Like most of you, we’re still trying to get our bearings with the Daylight Savings changes. We love having the extra hour of sunlight as the work day winds down, but getting up this morning…not so lovely. We have no choice when it comes to getting an extra hour of sleep, but what else do you adjust? Does your beauty routine suffer the consequences of losing an hour?

How To Wear It: Matching Polish and Lipstick

    spacer

Matching your nail polish to your lip color used to be the biggest beauty faux pas in the book. Like, record-screeching, stare-inducing—wrong, wrong, wrong. But, the once-dorky trend is suddenly the coolest thing ever. Case in point: butter LONDON recently launched Lippy, a line of lip glosses in five shades that correspond with lacquer colors already in the collection. But you can’t just swipe on a purple polish and its coordinating lipstick all willy-nilly like. Makeup artists share how to get the bold beauty statement just right.

If I may be so bold/jinx the weather … I do believe it’s time for some SPRING CLEANING. After winter, I literally want to crawl out of my skin - if I can afford a microdermabrasion treatment, I go for it … at a bare minimum, I add one of these puppies to my regimen.

Here are my top 3 at-home cult refinishing scrubs:

    spacer

    1. Clinique Instant Facial ($36.50) - a strangely shimmery but extraordinary mask treatment | 2. Goldfaden Power Scrub ($95) - the gold standard for at-home deep exfoliation and my favorite “scrubby” type scrub ever | 3. Bliss Steep Clean Purifying Mask ($55) - not scrubby, but just as renewing … plus I use it daily in the summer to get that NYC air-grime out

Do you have any Spring cleaning/”rebirth” rituals (haha)?  I love this time of year!

Guilty As Charged: Hair Faux Pas too Commonly Committed

    spacer

We’ve all been there: You can’t get your curls right, you hair is super dry, or you unconsciously OD on product and are left with a slicked mess. We asked KMS California Artistic Lead, Simon Miller to share 5 of the biggest hair faux pas he’s encountered, and how to fix them.

    1.      Not shaking out curls- After you use a curling iron on your hair, don’t be afraid to run your fingers through the curls and shake them out a bit. It will make them look way more natural and effortless.

    2.       Towel Turban- Instead of tying your hair up in a towel when you get out of the shower, spray in some leave in conditioner and use a big clip to keep your hair up. This will make your color’s vibrancy last a lot longer!

    3.       Too much product in bangs- When you’re putting product in your hair, really rub the product into your hands and apply to the ends and mid shaft of your hair. Your roots and bangs will pick up oil form your scalp and face, so keeping finishing products out of these areas will keep your hair looking cleaner longer.

    4.       Know your color maintenance- Make sure to work with your stylist to come up with hair color that works with your schedule. If you don’t have time to be in the salon every 4-6 weeks, get color that grows out well and that looks good as it fades. And take advantage of bang trims! When the front of your hair is on point, if the back is messy, it looks on purpose.

    5.       Towel dry techniques- When you’re towel drying your hair, make sure to  blot and squeeze the water out of your hair instead of scrunching and being ruff with the towel. This will keep your hairs cuticle closed which will result in shiny, frizz-free hair.

@refinery29 ‏ Cate Blanchett calls her skin care routine “lazy,” swears by emu oil, and is just as amazing as we hoped she would be: r29.co/wx9kSK
Now, we ALSO swear by emu oil. Anything to have skin like Ms. Blanchett.

How To Wear It: The Sock Bun

    spacer

Kelly Ripa rocked a close-to-perfect bun to the Oscar’s last week. The GORGE updo, we later found out, was courtesy of stylist-to-the-stars Oscar Blandi’s handy work (we know, a lot of ‘Oscars’ in this post. Sorry!). While Kelly’s chignon was held together with strategically placed pins and this, the look reminded us of the “sock bun” that Youtube’s beauty gurus have been raving about lately. So, we decided to round up our fave sock bun demos. All you need now is a red carpet.

Defrumpmeamber- Proves that it only takes three minutes to get the look!

TheGlamourGuru- Most comprehensive/easiest to follow tutorial (and it has a cool soundtrack, too).

Habioku- Sleek and to the side…AND with a flower.

Beauty Obsession: Peel & Stick Eyeliner

    spacer

It feels like we’ve been living in the dark ages. Only recently did we discover just how huge of a difference eyeliner makes. Like it can totally change a face instantly and you can totally skip eyeshadow if you don’t have time. The only downside—it’s a b*&#* to apply. Clearly we’re not the only spastic makeup lovers out there because Eye Rock Designer Liner (same makers of Nail Rock, the super cool nail appliques that we’re obsessed with) just launched genius peel and stick eyeliner designs. It may sound a little weird, but imagine perfectly winged (and even) liner that takes two minutes to perfect. What’s even better is that if you don’t line it up right the first time, you can just peel it off and straighten it out. No makeup remover…or steady hand required.

Beauty Confession: Which was your fave Oscars look?

We love Kristen Wiig, she’s hilarious, creative, looked fab last night for her Academy Awards debut, and can we talk about her amazing hair color? Dove Celebrity Stylist, Mark Townsend shared with us, how he created Kristen’s textured waves:

    spacer
“I was in love with Kristen’s J. Mendel dress as soon as I saw it; I was so inspired by the silhouette and color. We wanted Kristen’s hair to be full with voluminous waves and have an edgy and sexy texture”
