Nonsuch Mansion ❤ Winter Weddings

Posted By the Nonsuch Mansion Team on February 13, 2012

With snow still in the air we wanted to share a some of our favourite features of a winter wedding at Nonsuch Mansion.

Open fires and candlelight, frosty sparkle (outside and in),  a mansion full of evergreen, we provide a fully trimmed tree throughout December, you provide the misteltoe! As you can see, the low lying winter sun casts dramatic shadows and creates an amazing sunset. Once darkness sets in the mansion can be lit in spectacular style, the view from the outside it quite poetic.

Take a look at these wedding photos from Antonio Sanzari, we feel he has captured the magic of a winter mansion perfectly…

Nonsuch Pantry reviewed in Baby Surrey Magazine

Posted By the Nonsuch Mansion Team on February 13, 2012

Nonsuch Pantry, the coffee shop and cafe next to Nonsuch Mansion, was reviewed in this month’s Baby Surrey Magazine by their “Mystery Mum” Sarah Peters. It looks like she enjoyed her experience!

You can read the article in full here

Mystery Mum is off again, enjoying the long, late summer days and discovering parts of Surrey never explored before!  A spot of horse-racing, some fascinating science and exploring the depths of the county’s beautiful countryside… there is just so much fun to be had.  But, are these family friendly destinations as welcoming as they could be?  Mystery Mum finds out!

Nonsuch Park
Ewell Road, Cheam, SM3 8AL
Not a mile or two away, just over the dual carriageway, is the lovely Nonsuch Park, the rambling parkland on the site of Henry VIII’s Tudor hunting lodge.  The lodge is no longer at the site, but there are acres of grassy fields to run thought, with ancient trees to climb, woody knolls to hide in  and windy paths to follow.  With an extensive network of both surfaced and unsurfaced paths it is ideal for a family ramble, or a trip with scooters or bikes.
Upstairs, downstairs… The Service Wing of Nonsuch Mansion
Much of this beautiful Georgian building is used for private hire and weddings.  You will often see the wedding party sipping Champagne on the terrace.  However, the service wing of the mansion house is sometimes open to the public and it’s really worth a visit.  Seeing the old mangle in the laundry, the huge copper cooking pots in the kitchen and the open fire, is a peek into life “below stairs” in a mansion like this.
Brand new coffee shop… The Pantry at Nonsuch
A brand new coffee shop in a beautifully refurbished part of the mansion house is a delightful place to stop after a walk round Nonsuch.  With a seasonal menu featuring freshly prepared hot and cold dishes it is a welcome addition to the site.  The ambiance is light and airy and don’t even try to resist the cakes and sweet treats on offer.
Highchairs: Yes.
Children menu: Lots of appropriate, fresh and healthy items.
Buggies: Plenty of space for children and buggies welcome.
Parking: Lots of free parking at various points around the park.
Toilets and baby changing: near The Pantry.

Our Wedding Planner’s Wedding Plans

Posted By the Nonsuch Mansion Team on February 8, 2012

Have you ever wondered what happens when a wedding planner is planning her wedding? Nonsuch Mansion’s own Jade Tombs will be marrying her beau Ollie this summer.

Here’s a little update from our inhouse bride-to-be…

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all well and keeping out of the snow!

Benita, Lucy and I thought it would be good idea to share my own wedding planning journey with the brides and grooms that we are helping. It is definitely strange for me to be on the “other end” of the process! Here is a little blog update to tell you where I am up to.

Being a bride-to-be has taught me that it is all too easy to get caught up in the little things (the fluffy stuff) and actually forget the bigger picture of a wedding day. I’ve always believed that 80% of what makes a fantastic wedding is the atmosphere. I also know that my guests will remember my wedding for the food they eat, the drinks they drunk and fun they had. Also, I have learnt to take advice from my friends in the industry. Even though I have organised hundreds of weddings in my job, it’s refreshing to hear a different suggestion, idea or opinion from people I trust.

I feel lucky to have our Little White Book at my disposal, it has given me a huge headstart on booking the best wedding suppliers in London and Surrey. People who I’ve booked so far include:

* the amazing Lloyd Dobbie www.lloyddobbie.com
* videographer John Harris from www.ivpweddings.com
* gorgeous Charlotte from Restoration cakes www.restorationcake.co.uk
* Paul from Alpha Marquees
* the incredible James Taylor – an acoustic guitar singer who’s going to melt all the girls hearts!
* fab Steven Boys from First Dance DJ’s www.firstdancedj.co.uk
* Flowers are next on the list – still trying to find the perfect someone to help!

And, of course, Julie and the team at Bovingdons will be providing the delicious food.

We’ve already had our tasting and I am so excited about the menu. The food was first class, amazing, the tasting proved to Ollie and my family exactly why I am taking the Bovingdons chefs all the way back to Oxford. I wouldn’t have anyone else cater at my wedding, it’s easy to see why Bovingdons win awards for their food. Ollie and I have chosen a Summery menu starting with tomato trio, then a chopping board of lamb, with dessert of a lemon panacotta for the girls (served on a pretty vintage pink glass plate) and a gorgeous chocolate  desert for the men.

My dress (top secret, because Ollie reads this blog!) arrives this week, so let the diet and fitting commence. The Jimmy Choo’s have be bought, but remain in their box until the big day – although every now and again I open the lid and have a chat to them! Bridesmaid dresses are with the tailor, and the suits are hung in the wardrobe ready to go – as you all know and can tell, I am super, super organised.

Next step: our pre wedding photo shot  here at Nonsuch with the lovely Lloyd – photos to follow!

All the best

Jade
