About Nonsuch Mansion

Nonsuch Mansion stands on the eastern side of Nonsuch Park close to the site of Henry VIII’s infamous Nonsuch Palace, long ruined but never forgotten.

For many centuries, all that remained of the palace were ruins, memories and the name – Nonsuch.

This spirit was reborn under the reign of George III when a series of wealthy families built their mansion home within the park, evolving it over time into the fabulous Grade II listed building that you see today.

The original building dates from the late seventeen hundreds, but the greater part, including the south front and the staterooms, were rebuilt for Samuel Farmer between 1802 and 1806. He commissioned visionary architect Jeffrey Wyatt to recreate a “modern echo” of Henry’s Palace – elegant state rooms, striking parapets and stunning gardens all graciously mirror their majestic predecessor. Wyatt’s distinctive Tudor Gothic style can also be seen at his masterpiece Windsor Castle.

Those wishing to find out more about daily life at the mansion can visit the Service Wing Museum to see working dairy, larders, sculleries and laundries run by The Friends of Nonsuch.

Six generations of the Farmer family lived here each leaving their own unique mark on the park and mansion before both came into public hands in the 1930’s and became, amoungst other things, a venue for hire and a space in which to celebrate.

In 2009, after a well documented period of closure, London caterers Bovingdons were appointed by the Joint Management Committee and Epsom and Ewell Borough Council to take over the contract for the event spaces and bring the mansion back to life.

Following careful refurbishment, the venue now enjoys a modern look that accentuates its Georgian period features as well as incorporating a few subtle contemporary twists.

As it enters a new chapter in its long history, Nonsuch Mansion continues to hold a cherished place in the heart, memory and daily life of the whole community.
