Day In Review - Everything But The Kitchen Sink
Published by Nick Young April 19th, 2007 in Uncategorized.Well yesterday was a bit of a whirl wind. I started off the day tired and ended the day tired. I tried to staple my eyes open to watch the new Lost episode that I had recoded on my DVR, but that just wasn’t going to happen. But I woke up refreshed and found lots of fun stuff this morning. The internet is my oyster!
First things first. Had I been able to watch Lost last night I would have noticed that the producers threw ol’ Mr. Jobs a bone. I guess there was an iPhone encounter in the episode! A satelite phone was found on the island which looked as if a slimmed down Newton was loaded with the iPhone interface. Some people are even saying that it might be an early iPhone prototype. I can’t wait to watch the episode later this evening.
Moving right along to the next article of interest. Some of you might remember the picture in Sports Illustrated with the iPod (Warning, NSFW). Well a photographer has duplicated the shot (also NSFW) in his garage with his wife. I’m pretty amazed at how closely the image resembles the original SI picture. Actually, at first I thought it was the same image! Now if only this could turn into an internet craze :p
Another neat thing going around the blogosphere right now is Glenn Wolsey’s interview with Will Friedwald, the owner of the worlds largest iTunes collection. Now, I think I’ve got a pretty decent music collection at around 50-6 GB, which I know is dwarfed by others 200+ GB libraries. However, Will trumps us all with a whopping 849 GB consisting of 172,150 tracks. This isn’t the end though, Will claims that once he imports all his tunes his collection will be around 1200 GB! You might be wondering how well iTunes performs with such a large collection, which Will calls ‘The Matrix’. Will says that…
It (iTunes) was NOT designed for what I am doing with it, which is to store, manage and access a major music collection of nearly 200,000 tracks. As a result, when I am working with the full 800 GB library, it is painfully slow, getting around the library, doing searches, and editing info on individual tracks or whole albums just takes forever!
The interview is definitely worth a read, especially if you want to feel motivated to expand your collection.
Oh, and if you’re a Transmission.app fan there is a new 0.7 update available. Here’s the list new/updated features. I’m a little bummed that selective file downloading wasn’t added to this release, but some of the other new things are nice. If you aren’t using Transmission, and are looking for a good Torrent Client give Transmission a try.
Lastly, a personal note. Yesterday Keynote 2 Keynote broke the 100 RSS subscribers mark. It took 3 months to get my first 41 subscribers and only slightly more than another month to more than double that :) Thanks to everyone who’s been along for the ride, I enjoy conversing with you all daily.

Congrats on the 100 subscribers! Always an interesting read :)
Agreed w/ Trevor. Your site keeps getting better and better Nick. Keep it up!
PS: Can you imagine the conversation at the iPod guys house? “Hey honey…um…ya know how you always said you wanted to be a model? Well…”
I don’t know what would be harder, convincing my wife that I bought the swimsuit issue to read the articles or trying to get her to lay on the garage floor. I think the best plan of attack would be to tell her that she could get a new iPod out of the deal :p
Oh and thanks to both of you. I usually spend the better half of a day thinking about what I’m going to write about that evening. It’s sort of a labor of love for me. I’ve always been a big technology geek and the blog gives me a place to share my opinions, ideas, and thoughts with the world.
