The Spot Interview with: Wickedly Chic

Meet the Mom Behind Wickedly Chic!

spacer Who is Wickedly Chic? Where are you located?
Wickedly Chic is made up of myself (EIC), Krista Glavich-England (Guest Editor), Claire Lipton (Teen Editor) and Gabreial Wyatt (Beautify Me editor). Our home office (that's where I'm at) is in suburban Chicago.

How did you come up with your business name?
I purchased the Wickedly Chic name & website in May 2006 so it was something that was already out there.

When and why did you decide to start your own business?
I purchased WC in May 2006 and re-launched the website with a new design & format in June 2006. My oldest child was going away to college in the fall & the timing was right.

How did you get started?
I started by coming up with a new design for Wickedly Chic as well as a new format. It's just evolved from there. I really didn't know what I was doing at all.

What motivates you to keep your business going?
I have more self-motivation than I thought that I had. The growth of Wickedly Chic has been steady and progressive and that has helped with motivation. I want to see my concept succeed beyond my wildest dreams. I'd also love to have something solid to pass on to my daughters someday...if they should choose to be interested. I come up with all new ideas in the shower. Showers are motivating.spacer
Is there a particular product that you are currently highlighting on Wickedly Chic?
All of the products and items that are highlighted in Wickedly Chic are from independent businesses. You won't find anything from businesses that are not independently owned.

How do you juggle family and work at home?
It's not always easy. But my office is in my home & I'm accessible. I'm on a schedule that I make for myself so it's easy for me break away and work later, etc.

What advice would you give to moms seeking to become a WAHM?
Well...it's hard to do it all. Family is most important especially children. I can only speak for myself but an endeavor like this would have been impossible when my children were younger. I would have driven myself crazy and missed too many important moments. I guess my biggest piece of advice is to take naps when you can. They help to keep yourself going.

Ongoing promotions/contests at the moment at Wickedly Chic:
We are always having a promotion. Wickedly Chic offers a unique concept in giveaways. Sign up for our Newsletter mailing list (on the site) and you will receive an email every Sunday evening giving the details of that week's contest. Contestants have 24 hours to send in an email and be part of the drawing. Each contest is sponsored by a fabulous independent business. They're fun & exciting & I do send out very un-boring newsletters with the contest details. During the holiday season, we will be having mid-week contests as well.
