Ongoing Research

Teacher Inquiry is  one of the main focuses of all National Writing Project sites. Here at the  Eastern Michigan Writing Project, we are committed to using teacher inquiry, reflection, and research-based practices in our classrooms. To assist in achieving this goal EMWP has three different reasearch initiatives in place

The Teacher Research Group is made up of Teacher Consultants who are interested in conducting research into the teaching and learning that occurs in their classrooms. This lively group meets monthly and membership is open to all. Follow the link for more information.

Disciplinary Literacy Inquiry Groups are our newest initiative in this area. funded by a grant from the National Writing Project, we have formed two groups that will focus on writing in Science and Social Studies.  The Common Core State Standards place great emphasis on writing in the content areas, and these two groups will spend the 2011-2012 school year researching and developing writing curriculum for these two content areas. Membership is closed, but these groups will be presenting their findings at the March and April “Reading and Writing in a Decade of Standards” Workshop Series.

Finally, through our Professional Development programs we offer Teacher Inquiry Professional Development workshops as needed by the host school.
