About Us

spacer Achievable, was established in 1996 in response to the financial challenges and gaps in costly services facing individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Achievable serves as a "safety net" to provide crucial resources and services to individuals with developmental disabilities when limited or no funding is available.

Over the years, Achievable has responded to the growing needs of our community by expanding our programs and services to include a spectrum of supports for assisting individuals in overcoming the many health and quality of life issues that can and often do result from having a disability. Achievable currently focuses our resources on providing emergency support, specialized equipment and camp sponsorships, as well as supporting and/or implementing wellness programs that improve health, well-being and access to appropriate health care. Our most recent health and wellness initiative is the development of The Achievable Clinic, a community health center providing high quality, comprehensive health care to meet the specific needs of individuals with developmental disabilities. Achievable is committed to meeting the unmet needs of traditionally underserved children and adults with a range of developmental disabilities such as autism, intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and/or other developmental disabilities living in and around Los Angeles.

Approximately 17% of U.S. children under the age of 18 have a developmental disability, and the incidence of autism has risen alarmingly. Of the four primary types of developmental disabilities, autism rates have grown at 253% over an 8-year period, mental retardation at 36%, epilepsy at 28%, and cerebral palsy at 27% as reported in a 2007 California Department of Developmental Services Report Index.
