First Hand Observation

spacer It is no secret that most of America’s Bowhunters and Pro Bowhunters have learned a TON from the Fitzgeralds, over the past 3 Decades. Guess what? We HAVEN’T CHANGED……We are still America’s most successful bowhunting team, thanks to Big D, and we are still all about Teaching you how to experience greater success, by bringing you our 250+ days, cranking in the woods BOW ONLY Adventures, to Video, Web, & TV on a Daily Basis.

First Hand Observation As we travel, speaking on stages to tens of thousands of bowhunters at our TF Events, we are privileged to spend a great deal of time talking to you all, one on one! We know that a main reason bowhunters are not as successful as they would like to be, is that they end up doing more speculating/guessing, as to what their deer are doing, rather than being more confident in better knowing what’s going to happen. The ONLY way you can get to know your herd better, is to exist with them, as much as you can.

While Trail Cams are great tools in the aid of patterning whitetail and other game, and we do use them somewhat, nothing beats good ole First Hand Observation. I understand that for many, it may be easier said than done, but as much as possible, try to spend as much time in the woods, in and out of seasons (make sure to leave your bow at home, if season is not in, yet) as you can. Trail Cams are limited in scope. I always ask myself, “I wonder what walked behind the tree, where my trail cam is hanging?” You can see and document so much more, with the naked eye. I strongly urge you to go out and sit in your stands, during the summer months.

While deer, especially Bucks, do change up their patterns a bit from June to October, you will still be able to get a better idea of what you have going on in your woods. You will also become a better woodsman/woman, as you will learn new things, each time you get out there. In addition, you will most likely be able to get some great looks at Velvet Antlers, which really is a Beautiful Thing, on a Whitetail! Take your video camera, still camera, and a note pad, and document what you see. After a few visits to your woods in the off season, you can start to get a better idea, as to where you need to hang/move your stands, where the deer travel patterns are, and how they may change, as you approach bow season.

“Guy and I spend just about every day in the summer, observing our many farms, in a first person way. I PROMISE you, once you start getting more serious and frequent in observing things first hand, you will be more confident and successful, come ‘go time’”, says Big D.

Remember, although times have changed, and we have all advanced tremendously, technologically, Deer are STILL PRETTY MUCH THE SAME, as they were 59 Years Ago, when Big D began Bowhunting, at a very young age. You must realize that while you are a hunter a few months out of a year, a Deer is a Deer, 24/7/365, and if you want more success, you have to spend as much time as possible, in their home, learning their life patterns.

So, Friends, when the wifey asks you where you are at, in the early morning and late evening summer days, just tell her Team Fitzgerald told you to do it J
