During this era of accelerating change driven by new technologies and the creative genius of individuals who apply them, we must be bold in our search for best practices, in questioning common practices and in embracing new ways that e-learning and associated policies and services can erase academe’s limitations and increase its contribution to the world. Join us in Denver, CO, October 21-24, 2009 for the 21st Annual WCET Conference.

The
Planning Committee designs the conference to be a stimulating, forward-looking program that represents the multiple perspectives and diverse expertise of its attendees. Sessions are created that feature a number of speakers from varying backgrounds and institutions and include audience participation.  Sessions are organized in the following strands; bring multiple people from your institution to take advantage of the different focus areas.

Beyond the Institution Strand
This strand targets consortia, state, national and international leaders and policymakers, and educators interested in examining the issues, ideas and best practices with implications for the higher education enterprise, not specific to a particular institution. Special emphasis is on partnerships and consortia, as well as system, regional, state, national and international activities and other topics, such as Open Education Resources that extend beyond the campus.

Innovative Tools and Technology Strand
This strand targets technology leaders and innovators and reflects the current hot topics, new applications and technology services that are becoming pivotal to teaching and learning. It explores the how and why new technologies provide both opportunities and challenges to distance and distributed education.

Institutional Policies and Practices Strand
This strand targets campus leaders and policymakers and focuses on the broad aspects of e-learning that span the entire institution. Some of these aspects drive institutional decision-making. Other aspects may dictate institutional actions based on external requirements. Topics that cross over multiple strands are included in this category.

Student Services Strand
This strand targets student services staff members and providers and focuses on support for students enrolled in e-learning courses and programs. Services may be explored from the perspective of faculty, students and/or administration.

Teaching and Learning Strand

This strand targets faculty members, leaders and instructors and focuses on the needs of faculty and those who support faculty. The goal is to explore how e-learning improves the teaching and learning experiences via enhanced student-learning outcomes, increased student engagement, or more efficient or lower cost offerings.
