About Us

We are twelve years old!
The Vermont Farms! Association was founded in 1998 to provide educational opportunities about agriculture to the public. One of the major goals of the association is to sustain and further develop the working landscape that characterizes Vermont. Vermont working farms are rich in family friendly experiences, warm hearths and even warmer hearts.  Our 44 members help visitors learn new things about farm life on actual working Vermont farms.  We hope we represent well the several thousand working farmers who work much as we do daily, but not in the public eye.  Our visitors help sustain us and help us, and all Vermont farmers, keep Vermont open and working. Thanks for visiting Vermont Farms! members, working farmers tending to our agricultural lands and heritage.

Comments From Vermont's Governor Douglas:
Vermont's farms have dotted our landscape long before we embraced statehood, and a number of those farms are still operating today. In addition to dairy, many farms produce vegetables and fruit, or raise other produce for Vermonters as well as out of state markets.
If you have a chance, visit a local farmer's market or farm stand, and don't miss the quintessential Vermont experience of tasting maple syrup at one of our sugarhouses.

Adding our farms to your vacation plans will offer you an entirely different experience. You will have an opportunity to milk a cow, picnic with a llama, and visit with farm animals. Our numerous orchards offer an opportunity to pick your own apples, and the vineyards offer opportunities to sample Vermont's many fine wines. We have a number of cheese manufacturers offering original flavors from goats, sheep and cows. If you choose to vacation at one of the many farm stays, you will enjoy fresh produce, and proportions geared to get your farm day started.

Dorothy and I hope you will want to experience this unique vacation opportunity ---and it's available year around.

Our farm visitors play a critical role in developing new direct marketing opportunities for Vermont farmers, keeping Vermont farmers as the agricultural stewards of Vermont, and allowing them to continue keeping their land and families in farming.
Thank you for joining in this Agritourism partnership that keeps our lands in working agriculture and our mountains green.
