Lair of the Beasts: The Boggy Creek Monster Mania
Nick Redfern knows good books and he's chomping at the bit to let you in on a doozy. If he calls it "definitive," there's no argument that Lyle Blackburn's The Beast of Boggy Creek: The True Story of the Fouke Monster will exceed your expectations. This is no faint praise as Nick shows you how and why Lyle nailed Alabama's State Cryptid as if front-man for the rock band Ghoultown were on a first name basis with the beast. Speaking of personal experience, a similar creature stalks our northwestern forests, as those who have found themselves face to face with sasquatch well know. But there is a difference between long term witnesses and researchers of the creature in their emotional connections to, and handling of, the phenomenon, as Shooting Sasquatch: A Long-Term Witness Perspective makes clear. One expert witness who is no longer with us, despite his enduring legacy, is Tom Slick. Loren Coleman has found that Slick was well-connected and susses out what brought together Tom Slick & JFK, precipitating one fateful day in Dallas.

'Dyad Scout Craft' Close Encounter - San Antonio, TX Phantoms & Monsters
Back in the seventies when UFOs were in vogue, San Antonio was a hotspot for sightings hot on the heels of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Lon Strickler gives plenty of background, and photos, leading up to a spectacular eyewitness account of a disc-shaped UFO being intercepted by a jet from the nearby air force base. Of course strange phenomenon are nothing without witnesses and we have a pair of accounts sure to pique one's curiousity. First Paul Dale Roberts has an Interview with Karen M. – Strange Sounds Experiencer. From hums, skyquakes, and other things which go bump in the night, Karen gives her unique perspective and how it relates to abduction phenomena. No stranger as an abductee, the blogger known as Conner never feels safe considering the power wielded by the Greys. Indeed it's hard to relax When Doors and Windows Won't Close.

The Secret History of St. Patrick's Day, Again Secret Sun
Yesterday everyone was Egyptian for a day. You heard us right, not Irish but Egyptian. Christopher Knowles tells the story behind this ancient holiday that dates back thousands of years, along with his personal encounter with a leprechaun that was far too real for him to be akin to a pink elephant. Others, like Andrew May, are a bit more traditional in their approach to maverick history. In honor of yesterday's holiday, he gives a hagiography of Saint Patrick of Glastonbury with background on the famous abbey and the mystical realm surrounding it. And it wouldn't have been Saint Patrick's Day without mentioning the monstrous cousins of leprechauns, the Fomorian giants. In More on Fomorians, Dale Drinnon proposes that the Formorian giants were a specifically bred caste of warriors of very great size and strength, bred out of CroMagnonlike forebearers.

Healthy Skepticism Heretical Notions
Scientists are a funny bunch. On one hand they are egalitarian in their research, believing anyone may manifest strange powers. The other hand has them going out of their way to avoid talented people who may skew results. A recent paper that earnestly endeavors to debunk succeeds with its failures in methodology.

Faster Than a Speeding Bullet ... Herald Tribune
Billy Cox wonders if we finally have the holy grail of UFO evidence--same-event footage from multiple angles--in the seven UFO videos of three separate military flybys over El Bosque Air Base outside Santiago on Nov. 5, 2010. Cox is impressed that Leslie Kean's article on the remarkable footage, UFO Caught On Tape Over Santiago Air Base, was actually posted in the Science section of the Huffington Post rather than under their Weird Science heading. Is the mainstream finally getting it, he asks? The answer is apparently no, as the Kean article has now been moved to the Huff Post trash bin of science. Criticism of the footage appears in the Daily Mail, in a story entitled Chilean UFO Travelling at 4,000mph 'Captured on Film From Seven Angles', where skeptics are unimpressed and wonder if the UFO is nothing more than an insect flying past the camera. So Kean went back to the Chilean officials who at first thought the same thing. But when they looked at the footage from the very different vantage points and the same object appeared, they realized that the bug explanation was untenable. But others are still not convinced that this is the long awaited "smoking gun": Camera Artifact-ology.

Hunting Oz's Cryptid Tigers Cryptomundo
Loren Coleman is stoked after watching the latest film, The Hunter, and gives an overview of the Tasmanian and Queensland tigers along with a much needed geography lesson. He then goes out on limb with a best guess prediction for the probable site of where the Thylacine will be rediscovered. Elsewhere those much talked about tracks of sasquatch are providing hints of its behavior: Video Of Three Mile Trackway in Northern MN by FB/FB Confirms Bigfoots Like to Walk Sideways on Downed Trees. Continuing our trek through the world of cryptids, Glasgow Boy takes a second look at the supposed Loch Ness Monster photo of William Jobes and calls it inconclusive in Follow Up to the William Jobes Photo. Either Nessie has become very adept as posing as a log, or once again we have to dismiss evidence of the elusive loch dwelling creature. In the meantime, while we wait for Nessie to finally show herself, here is a lengthy list of Books on the Loch Ness Monster, from classics to recently published. The books range from the scientific and skeptical to the downright odd, like the privately printed 1984 book I'm Sticking my Neck Out! which poses the theory that the Loch Ness Monster is actually a type of elephant-like animal. Tinier yet no less fascinating are the fey who keep unorthodox historians up at night. This time Dr. Beach looks at the nature of Fairies and Vegetation and how they reflect our relationship with the Earth and growing things.

Healed by a UFO: The Flores Family's Odyssey Inexplicata
Scott Corrales has stumbled across an a rare instance of healing by UFO in which a sick little boy makes a recovery after a sighting. Corrales goes the extra mile tracking down sources and witnesses behind a scenario which has no logical explanation. By no means could one accuse a four year old of hypochondria, nor fabricating such an encounter. Such are the challenges faced by Jose Caravaca who applies his distortion theory to The Encounter of Ventura Maceiras: The Theory of Distortion and the Mental Factor. In this case, an alien encounter has deleterious effects on the witness and surroundings. In a similar vein, Andrew Nicholson looks at Those Mysterious Lights: Australia's First UFO Flap in 1909, where a spate of sightings that caused quite a stir down under still defy explanation to this day. There's yet more theorizing in What are UFOs? Terrestrial, Extraterrestrial and Metaterrestrial Theories. David Jones's interview with John Whtie hopes to set the record straight, giving background on those three theories. Yet no theory can explain the exploitation of people's beliefs and The Abuses of Enchantment has Mark Pilkington looking at how the subject has been twisted to meet the ends of military intelligence--the self-same entities who chalk up sightings to nonsense like Venus low in the sky and fire lanterns among others. Rich Reynolds laments recent news that the "Swamp Gas" Site Demolished in the recent severe weather in the central USA.

Snowflake' UFOs Fall on Murmansk Gather
A very unusual sight caught the attention of several residents of Murmansk, Russia, recently. Unidentified Flying Objects in the truest sense of the phrase fell towards the ground near a busy road, looking very much like snowflakes. In the video, it is impossible to judge distance or size, but it is a very odd and intriguing event. We all know that UFOs and mainstream media are like oil and water. Tackling the subject, Open Minds suggests that opinions may begin to change as more planets are discovered and we expand our knowledge of the known universe. Then there's the story that prompts us to take Another look at Project Serpo, which offers some new possible evidence and a more recent witness to the mystery. Project Serpo is a well-known supposedly first-person report on the trade agreement between the US and aliens in the 1970s. Humans were allegedly taken to the planet Serpo. Many people file this story alongside the likes of time-traveler John Titor, but is it worthy of another look? Another iconic UFO case gets a fresh look from skeptics in: A Roswell Dismissal. Lance Moody and Christopher Allen suggest that since the idea that saucers were interplanetary craft had not gelled in 1947, the Roswell crash debris must have been just that--debris from some sort of flying object but not necessarily of extraterristrial origin. Further proof that the material was nothing highly unusual are the apparent careless actions of the military in securing the evidence. And finally, Micah Hanks at Intrepid Magazine looks Into Thin Air: Fortean Dissapearances That Have Kept Us Guessing and adds a fascinating and spooky tale from his own family history in which a relative disappeared through an open window in the middle of the day. UFO-related? Who knows, but unexplained disappearances like these are so odd that any explanation is possible.

Ghost Hunters International Sacrifice Their Dignity With A Bloodletting in Belize MassLive
The crew of GH International conducted a blood-letting ceremony among Mayan ruins in Belize in an attempt to summon spirits...and higher ratings. The resulting behind-the-scenes drama reported here indicates that not everyone on the team was onboard with this stunt and prompts the question: How far is too far? When does ghosthunting stop being a somewhat dignified, scientific pursuit and turn into a circus sideshow spectacle? Jason Orfutt brings us another encounter with a The Looming Shadow Man, a paranormal spectre that needs no blood-letting ceremony or theatrics to keep our attention.

Tracking the Carrabelle Cat: Florida’s Black Panther Mystery Current
Ken Gerhard gives a detailed report on his efforts to track down an elusive ABC (alien big cat) sighted in Tate’s Hell State Forest in Florida. While the big cat was not sighted during the investigation, Gerhard is convinced that one does prowl the area. Meanwhile, Cryptozoology Online presents a collection of recent ABC sightings from the UK in Down the little wooden hills again... Switching crypids and places, we arrive at the question on everyone's mind: Is Bigfoot in Cache County? Animal Planet's "Finding Bigfoot" turns up in Cache County, Utah, in search of the big guy. Local opinions range from believers to skeptics and as usual, no Bigfoot was found. However, a search of the local archives turned up 50 reports of sightings, so it seems perhaps Bigfoot is just a reluctant recluse who doesn't like to be caught on camera, especially those of a camera crew.

Tales of a Great Pacific Coast Earthquake Passed Down in Legend Boing Boing
An epic battle between Thunderbird and Whale that caused a "rolling up of the great waters" is how one Native American tribe describes a huge earthquake that rocked the Pacific Northwest United States a few centuries ago. The earthquake account has been passed down through the years via oral legend and is a part of more than one tribe's history, giving credence to the theory of a massive earthquake around 1700. Scotty Roberts also attempts to tease out truth in legend in "When Flesh Meets Fabric: The Shroud of Turin" – Interview with Barry Schwortz, Photo Imaging Specialist, in which we are given a snapshot of the controversy surrounding the famous relic.

Chinese Human Fossils Unlike Any Known Species New Scientist
Hobbits hit the mainstream almost a decade ago, Denisovans just two years ago, and now paleontologists have come upon another one of our ancestors. This specimen has a little bit of the new and a little bit of the old, leaving experts scratching their heads over the newest branch of our tree. Of course this pales in comparison with tales of potential relatives still among us. Now you can Watch How One Of The Most Significant Bigfoot Evidence Was Discovered with the best footprints to date found in London, Oregon. Short of blurry photos and video, no one can definitively describe a sasquatch, but there's a Hunter Who Once Owned A Pet Bear Swears What He Saw Was No Bear with a colorful account like no other. Speaking of videos there's some New Footage: Bigfoot Sighting In Idaho from last Tuesday. If only it wasn't standing behind a tree. Had this taken place on a reservation, there are some Native American officers who always get their beast. Set your DVR to record the next episode of Navajo Cops on March 19th, where a Skinwalker Is Caught on Tape, an episode that reportedly thoroughly spooked the cameramen and producers.

Chinese Schoolgirls Commit Suicide In Attempt To Travel Back In Time Daily News
Two fifth-grade girls drowned themselves in hopes of achieving time-travel. China has now banned TV shows depicting time-travel after fears that it would trigger exactly that sort of behavior, although one girl's suicide notes blames losing a garage door remote and fearing her parents' punishment. Whatever the reasons, it is a sad story to report. On a lighter note, we have The Jumping Frenchmen of Maine is history's most startling mental disorder and we're inclined to believe that statement after reading the history of this bizarre affliction. In the late 19th century, some French-Canadian lumberjacks were beset by wild and uncontrollable displays of the "startle reflex," the same reflex that makes newborn babies react with flailing limbs when moved too quickly. Being in an occupation that requires constant handling of axes, the unfortunate lumberjacks with this odd disorder caused quite an uproar. Doctors studied them and the public poked fun at them, which seems to be the time-honored tradition when encountering something inexplicable.

Is This a Picture of UFOs Shooting Laser Beams at an Airplane? io9
A passenger on a plane flying from England to Cyprus claims that this photo shows a UFO hovering next to the plane and "scanning" the plane with lasers. MUFON is investigating and reports there is video footage as well. With a plane full of people, we'd expect more than one cellphone photo or video, so we're hopeful more will turn up. It's been a full week of UFO sightings and this might be the motherlode of them all, showing a gigantic bubble-like object attached to the surface of the sun. Unfortunately, it's only a Solar eruption mistaken for refueling UFO spaceship, which is impressive in itself. Meanwhile, RRRGroup revists an extraordinary UFO experience that took place in Russia: UFO Spectacular: Voronezh, Russia, 1989. In a remote village, 12 children witnessed a UFO landing and run-in with several somewhat threatening humanoid creatures. The reports are extremely detailed, but mass hysteria might be to blame. Inexplicata presents A Bevy of flying saucers with terrestrial origins, from mid-19th century airships and blimps to Russian experimental aircraft. And Peter Fotis Kapnistos of Myth-Os relates the strange tale of Hanna Reitsch, Germany's "mother of suicide missions" and Hitler's personal pilot in: Rocket Aviatrix: Woman First in Space? Reitsch's story is fascinating, disturbing and at times downright bizarre and reads more like a novel with a conspiracy theory twist. And, yes, there is a UFO angle.

New Frog Species Discovered in New York and New Jersey Cryptomundo
A new frog species has been discovered in the midst of some of the world’s tallest skyscrapers. The frogs are believed to have lived among us for a century without being recognized. "So much for the notion that new species are never found in America," comments Loren Coleman. Over at Frontiers of Zoology, Dale Drinnon rounds up reports of Giant Snakes In New Mexico over the past few decades. From the descriptions, the snakes are sometimes as large as telephone poles and over 12 feet long. One man recalls seeing the ground heaving up and down supposedly as a giant snake breathed, which makes us think of the giant underground worms in Tremors, but as far as we know Kevin Bacon is not involved.

Mysterious Hog Farm Explosions Stump Scientists Wired
Mysterious explosions on hog farms across the midwest are killing hogs and perplexing scientists. The explosions seem to orginate from the manure pits where an unexplained foam forms, trapping methane gas within "manure bubbles." Be warned, the photos are just as disturbing as whatever your mind has conjured up with the phrase "manure bubbles."

Flash of Light in Phoenix Identified? Open Minds
The Phoenix flasher has been exposed. Nothing Grey in all of this, just the opening of an electrical line breaker, according to local utility company Arizona Public Service. That's what caused the flash of light and resulted in a temporary power outage in the area. Of course Phoenix's claim to UFO fame is far more spectacular than a distant flash. But there's nothing flashy about The Professor's application of statistics to UFO science, which makes us wonder Can You Learn Anything By Just Counting? You can, and he does, in this post mainly about reports of triangular-shaped UFOs.

Mystery cats in Showbusiness--Your Assistance is Requested! ShukerNature
Black cats are commonplace, but melanistic tigers and leopards are rare, despite assumptions otherwise. Karl Shuker is leading the hunt for clues for these cats that remain at the periphery of popular culture, and he needs your help. One theory that may have currency is they walk among us in another form, bringing us to Jeffrey Pritchett's Review: Brad Steiger's The Werewolf Book Encyclopedia of Shapeshifting Beings, covering such diverse subjects as wild children, yeti, serial killers and more anomalous apocrypha you can shake a stick at.

There is Nothing Paranormal About NDEs, Dr. Jan Holden Disagrees Skeptiko
In a riveting interview with Alex Tsarkiris, Dr. Jan Holden discusses the recently published academic paper, "There is Nothing Paranormal about Near Death Experiences" and provides far more evidence for NDEs than the paper presents against them. Calling it a collection of already researched, well-known debunked theories against NDEs, she neatly eviserates each point in the paper. Over at the Pelicanist, Peter Rogerson reviews the reissue of Death and Consciousness published in 1985 by David Lund. While Rogerson says he is not all that impressed, it is interesting to note that Lund proposed a theory for "disembodied survival in a world full of images," which calls to mind virtual worlds such as Second Life.

Synchromysticism's Godfather Twilight Language
Loren Coleman reviews James Shelby Downard's Mystical War by Adam Gorightly, a chronicle of the rather bizarre and colorful life of James Downard, an American theorist and pamphleteer who shared his thoughts about conspiracies, coincidences, synchronicity, and symbolism. Coleman calls him "Synchromystism's Godfather." The review is so jampacked with ancedotes that it itself is a very entertaining and insightful read. And over at the UFO Trail, we have an extensive article by Jack Brewer on Major General Stubblebine and Dr. Rima Laibow and their involvement with the research behind mind-control experiments: Ufology and Alleged Post-MKULTRA Mind Control.

Whitley Strieber is "Solving the Communion Enigma" Bookotron
A review of Whitley Strieber's new nonfiction work, Solving the Communion Enigma, in which Strieber takes his experiences in his earlier book Communion and puts them into a much larger context. He covers topics from crop circles to animal mutilations and also his own life after the events detailed in Communion. The reviewer calls this book creepy and chilling and Strieber gives only vague answers to the questions he brings up, leaving the rest of it up to the reader to decipher. During A 2012 interview with Whitley Strieber in his home, bizarre happenings occurred, including an unexplained high-pitched ringing sound which only the interviewer could hear. Over at Intrepid Mag, Scotty Roberts Interviews Philip Coppens about his work on the subject of ancient aliens. Coppens talks about his research methods and findings, and makes mention of a very intriguing "Chinese Rosewell," which we would really like to hear more about.

Has The Mayan Crystal Skull Mystery Been Solved? Marketwatch
Gemstone dealer Wayne Sedawie says yes, it has, and he's the one who has solved it. Sedawie says he has singled out the one most likely suspect who may have carved the skulls in the early 20th century by tracing back the carving method. The vague but intriguing write-up does not reveal who this mystery carver is, however, and a quick glance at the dealer's website does not provide any further information. Addressing another myth, Andrew May attacks what he calls a myth-conception concerning Einstein's well known theory of relativity in a self-described "pedantic" discussion on its relation to the creation of the atomic bomb, in The Einstein Misconception.

INFO President Phyllis Benjamin Dies Cryptomundo
We note the passing of a true fortean, the woman, who with the help of her husband, Al Rosensmyle, kept The International Fortean Organization alive for decades after the passing of the Willis brothers, who founded the organization in 1965. For 30 years, Phyllis Benjamin ran the various FortFests, FortNites, and FortScapes in the Washington, D.C. area. In her honor, we note a fortean event of sorts, in Spider Web Forest Is Beautiful And Terrifying. The land down under is plenty weird with their deadly creepy crawlies, pouched mammals, and bunyips, but here some sheet-web and wolf spiders have conspired with the rain and flooding in the eastern Australian city of Wagga Wagga to put on a spectacular show.

James Randi: Skepticism's Great Achilles Daily Grail
Steve Volk asks some very thought-provoking questions about James Randi and the ironic possibility that he may have been conned by his long-time live-in associate, Jose Luis Alvarez, who was recently arrested and charged with identity theft. Meanwhile in the UK, the skeptics' favorite target, Derek Acorah, performs a ghost-banishing ceremony, making a mess of an English family's haunted home in the process, but claims success in Ghosts Busted.

The Horned Demon Cat Of World War II - A True Story ShukerNature
Witnessed by several people, a mysterious horned cat-like creature with glowing eyes and the ability to disappear into thin air roamed the streets of London in 1943. Shuker wonders if it could have been a cryptid creature or perhaps even an elemental spirit in disguise. In other strange creature news, another horned beast gets a new theory as Dale Drinnon wonders if the mythical unicorn may in fact have been a Pristichampsus Procamptocerass.

Fairy Sighting on Skye Beachcombing's Bizarre History Blog
It's not often that one can use the word charming to describe a paranormal experience, but we feel that it is accurate in this case concerning a fairy sighting on the Isle of Wright in about 1880. The tale involves a mysterious old woman with the "second sight" and a brother and sister who caught a glimpse of tiny fairies frolicking on a hillside. The story was passed down through the decades in the family to Katherine Briggs, renowned British folklorist. Her father was the boy who saw the fairies. Equally fascinating but decidedly lacking in fairy dust is Paranormala's in-depth look at the folklore of the "evil eye": If Looks Could Kill: The Evil Eye Throughout History. Apparently, even Mussolini believed in the power of the evil eye and actively tried to avoid it. Given the disasters that befell various people around him, he wasn't very good at staving off its effects.

Hale County Sheriff's Office Searching For Possible Gorilla ABC 3340
A brief report from Hale County, Alabama, about sheriff's deputies and the fire department searching for "at least one gorilla" with the surprising statement that "it is unknown how many are loose or in what direction they are headed." A hoax? A zoo runaway? A Bigfoot? Loren Coleman has some past examples of “gorilla” sightings from Alabama in Breaking News: “Gorilla” Seen In Alabama. In a story about the other 800 pound gorilla in the cryptozoology world, Nessie, some details on The Yellow Submarine and the Loch Ness Monster. When it comes to the pursuit of the unexplained people will go to great lengths, or depths, regardless of the dangers. Such is the case of Dan Scott Taylor, who combined his love of Nessie with his admiration for The Beatles. But, sadly, the two never did meet.

What Happened to the Girls in Le Roy New York Times
Stress, environmental poisoning, hysteria, and disease have all been considered in this unusual case, which has made headlines for the past few months. The students appear to be recovering but the cause remains vague. Susan Dominus hopes to shed new light on this phenomenon. One cause that hasn't been hypothesized is insanity, and Loren Coleman is after one of those March Hares who hold the key to March Madness 2012, a handful of gripping tales that may become more familiar as we march on. In ye olden days the girls' hysteria would've been led to accusations of witchcraft. Fortunately our contemporaries are more level headed. Speaking of which, Dr. Beach has a spellbinding account of Breathing Out the Spirit: Another Modern Witch with insight on how these crones ensured their power would not wane with their lives.

Knock, Knock: What's NOT There??? The Big Study
The Professor is puzzled by a phantasm that straddles the realms between religion and secularism. One rainy night, several of the faithful caught sight of a holy trinity unfazed by rain but the circumstances keep this case from being cut and dried. An in a long-running series, Mark Russell Bell provides Some Observations about My Olcott / Blavatsky Series of Articles, an interest that began "in the summer of 1995 when I witnessed occurrences associated with a so-called 'talking poltergeist' haunting in Oklahoma."

The Positively True Story of Kenneth Arnold: Part 3 Saturday Night Uforia
We're not talking about the veracity of the events surrounding Roswell in 1947 but how Kenneth Arnold managed to stay sane at the center of the storm that erupted around him. Sometimes it can be enough that one wishes flying saucers never existed. This part covers the big flap of July 4, 1947, the beginning of Arnold's friendship with Captain E.J. Smith, Arnold's written report of his encounter to Wright Field, and his meeting with military investigators, who were favorably impressed with Arnold. In UFOs: Before and After, Spanish UFO researcher Jose Antonio Caravaca provides a raft of interesting images from various sources that preceded, by many years, the UFO craze that began in 1947. More currently, we've heard the speculations regarding apparent UFO interest in our nuclear facilities, but the sighting of a
