Summer Camp Weekly Themes

Themed Art Camp for Elementary School Artists (ages 6-10)

MOCHA camps provide engaging and enriching art activities for children and youth ages 6–15.  No previous art experience is required.  One day of each session we will take field trips away from the MOCHA campus, with art walks and visits to other museums or programs that complement the theme of the week.  Each Friday afternoon, family and friends are invited to view and celebrate the week's masterpieces.

ARCHITECTURE • JUNE 18–22
Join our Kids’ Architecture Think Tank, and take an Eco-Adventure in Architecture as we explore sustainable structures and green design.
FIELD TRIP: ARCHITECTURAL WALKING TOUR OF OAKLAND

ARCHEOLOGY • JUNE 25–29

Dig in as we unearth fantastic fossils, colorful cave paintings and MOCHA-style mummies.

ROCK OUT ART • JULY 2–6

(No camp July 4th – tuition $240 this week)  
Join the band, get funky and shake it up when we construct awesome instruments, design and print psychedelic rock posters, and create art that really grooves.

PUPPETS & PERFORMANCE • JULY 9–13
Get behind the stage and learn to create hand puppets, shadow puppets, finger puppets and more.  Watch the characters come alive at our final puppetry performance.  
FIELD TRIP: CHILDREN’S FAIRYLAND

OUT OF THIS WORLD • JULY 16–20
Launch into out-of-this-world creativity.  Build rockets and space stations, and create your own fantasy worlds filled with friendly alien life.

LETTUCE MAKE ART • JULY 23–27
Play with your food!  From Pop Art to Still Lifes, we’ll use art to get to the roots of where your fruit and veggies come from.

CIRQUE de MOCHA • JULY 30- AUGUST 3  
Design a character costume that celebrates your inner clown.  Monopolize your time and get a Clue inventing board games and toys.  Bring your own circus menagerie to life in an awesome MOCHA parade.                                                                                            FIELD TRIP: PLAYLAND-NOT-AT-THE-BEACH, EL CERRITO

CREATURE FEATURE • AUGUST 6–10
Stalk wild and wonderful animals from across the globe.  Stuff, build, draw and paint the beasts that roam the forests, the deserts and the outer limits of your imagination.

ALPHABET OF ART • AUGUST 13–17
Brush up on the basics!  Start where Picasso began. We’ll go on line hunts, create colorful portraits and get up to our elbows in clay as we work our way through line, shape, color, texture and space.

ISLAND GETAWAY • AUGUST 20-24
Explore the art and culture of the islands of the world from Manhattan to the Maldives.  Build boats and bridges to get you there.
