18 young people: Our Communities - Our Views

Welcome

A new generation making their views known through film and social media.

MyView gave 18 young people (aged 13 – 19) from across England the chance to work with professional film makers, and to create their own short films that express their perspective on identity, faith, belonging, violent extremism and media representation.

The participants were equipped with handheld High Definition video cameras and through direct contact with professional fim-makers, given the skills  needed to express themselves and their views through film, in ways that developed their creativity and confidence.

While working  locally, supported by youth workers and film-maker mentors, the young people also came together through this website to, discuss the issues and content of their work with additional input from “theme experts”.

The MyView site now stands as the main exhibition platform for these often powerful, high quality films. Each film creatively engages with complex and important issues in its own unique and expressive way. They are the individual voices of the MyView participants from a range of communities across England. Supported by the recorded dialogue between the participants, we hope this site will provide a rich and authentic learning resource for other young people across the country.

MyView is produced by Hi8us South and is made possible by the generosity of Creativity, Culture and Education (CCE).
