- What's Fello
- Fello is my performance instrument. It connects the cello and the computer in one instrument, using the bow as a special interface. The bow plays the cello, traditionally, but in Fello it also holds a set of sensorswhich measure the movement, acceleration, and finger pressure. This data can be used in audio software which tweaks the cello sounddirectly in relation to my hand and arm gestures.I've developed Fello at STEIM in Amsterdam since 2005,using their junXion software for the mappings.ByungJun Kwon engineered the sensors and the wireless receiver.I perform Fello solo sessions, duos with DJs or other musicians, and play in dance choreographies.Fello needs to be amplified loudly. It's for the stage, not for the studio.Recently, I'm experimenting with video data which can also be played with my bow gestures. This show has been premiered in kyoto in December 2011, and you can watch a video of the concert here.
- Sutsche & Fello
Sutsche & Fello is my duo project with Axel Kochmeier (DJ akaak) from Hamburg.
He is part of the glorious sound system "Sutsche" who play techno maxis pitched down to 33rpm.
The "Sutsche" sound is sluggish, heavy, full of energy, and with a lot of air in between the slowed down beats.
In our shows, I fill in these gaps with Fello sounds.
Certain parts are pre-composed, others are totally free.
We mainly play in clubs, and we like to play loud. Our first gig took place at the Kubik Club in Hamburg 2009, since then we played at Dockville Festival Hamburg, Berghain Kantine Berlin, Golden Pudel Club Hamburg, Fusion Festival, De:sonanz Festival Skopje, and more.

- PandA System
- P and A is for Prashant and Andi, together we're PandA System. We've met in India in 2009 and played a tour there in winter 2010.Prashant Pallemoni is a DJ based in Bangalore. He creates beats on two turntables using recordings of Indian percussion instruments (mainly of South Indian "carnatic music").His setup is similar to my "Fello", conceptually, as he plays traditional instrumental sounds live through an electronic system. All info on our shows and workshops, press reviews and picturescan be found on our blog for the tour.More gigs are planned for 2012. This project is funded by the Ministry For Culture And Media Of The City Of Hamburg and the Goethe Zentrum Hyderabad/ India.

- Springintgut
Springintgut is the name of my studio project since 2002. Electronic music in the studio and on stage are two different ideas to me. For the Springintgut records I like to record my instruments and treat them over hours in the machines, record them again and again, and find a few seconds of new sound in the end. It usually takes long until a track or song is finished. It's tricky to take this process onto a stage, that's why Springintgut live-sets are rare. I rather perform live with my Fello System, or as DJ.
What's that for a name?
I get alot of curiousity about this moniker. Especially from people from outside Germany. Well here's some background: "Springintgut" is a street name in the town of Lueneburg in Northern Germany. The word unintentionally blends the names of two fairytale characters, "Springinsfeld" and "Tunichtgut", which sums up to someone who does nothing of value and has his head in the clouds. Apart from that: I like the "spring in the guts" sound that it carries in English.- Discography (+ listening!)

- Summer Of Seven 1/7 (Single/ mp3)
7inch. Label: Pingipung, April 2011
Two tracks I recorded in India found their way on this vinyl single. It opens the 7inch series "Summer of Seven" on Pingipung records: seven 7inches in seven months. "Bangalore Eagles" and "Bangalore Dawgs" are two odes to the animals in the city of Bangalore, combining string samples from found records with Fello recordings and a drum machine.Springintgut - Bangalore Eagles by Springintgut

- Park And Ride (LP/ CD/ mp3)
Album. Label: City Centre Offices, 2008.
"Park And Ride" is my second full-length album, released on City Centre Offices in 2008. It was partly recorded at STEIM in Amsterdam during easygoing spring times in the beautiful city, partly recorded in my studio in the autumn forest near Lueneburg in Northern Germany. One half of this record is a ride, the other one is contemplation. That's why it works best on vinyl. Album. Label Pingipung Records, 2004.
Posten90 is my first longplayer, released on Pingipung. The album title is the name of the forest house near Lueneburg where I lived and worked at the time. The house next to a river formerly was an ancient outpost for commuter train services. Sheep all around. Hamburg city never far. These were good days, you can hear that.Springintgut - Harmonika by springintgut

Springintgut EP is my first solo release, released on Pingipung in 2004.
These tracks came out of the attempts to program my drum etudes in drum samplers to listen to them. Replace drum sounds by a melody, and another, and another, suddenly the snare sounds like a guitar, here we go. It's a vivid sound which in my ears goes well together with this moniker which no one can pronounce. "Springintgut" is a blend of two german fairytale characters, "Springinsfeld" and "Tunichtgut" which implies a happy-go-lucky/ trial-and-error attitude. For those not familiar with this, just focus in the "spring" part of the name… says enough.Springintgut - Kirmes in C-Dur by springintgut

- Soft Skills (2009)
- Composition for the Shortfilm directed by Max Fey (HFF Munich), Winner of the Panther Award 2009, Jury Award Landshuter Kurzfilmfest 2010.Soft Skills is about the integrity of a young man. He fails to concentrate in interviews in an assessment centre while his awareness of domestic violence in the neighbourhood takes away his sleep.
- Brei (2009)
"Brei" is a common fairytale in which a magic pot cooks unlimited porridge; it turns from a bliss to a threat. Filip Piskorzinsky tells the story anew in surreal, photographic images. I played a free cello score over the movie.
- Kosher (2007)
Kosher (2006), Composition for the Shortfilm directed by Doron Wisotzky (HFF Munich), with Fabian Busch. Winner of the Langenscheidt "Short Cuts" competition. Kosher is about a nightly encounter in which language plays the key role.

- After Hour (2006)
After Hour (2006), Composition for the Shortfilm directed by Max Fey (HFF Munich), nominated for Cannes (Shortfilm-Reel) 2006. After Hour is the portrait of a ruthless chap who tries his boundaries. The track "Damokles" from my Springintgut album "Park And Ride" has originally been composed for this film. Max Fey plays the guitars.
Damokles by Springintgut
- Königskinder (2005)
Königskinder (2005), Composition for the Shortfilm directed by Max Fey (HFF Munich). This movie shows a girl who temporarily lives in Barcelona and loses touch with her boyfriend in Germany. With no dialogue but distant phone calls the main character here is the city which pulls her in and makes her alienate from her relationship.
- Everyday Sunday (2005)
Everyday Sunday (2005), Composition for the Shortfilm directed by Harun Najib (Rietveld Academie Amsterdam). This movie shows the takeoff from the inside of an aircraft, with no cut from rainy budapest airport to the endless horizon above the clouds. Sounds like nothing much, but it is.
- Dance & Performance
... And Then I Wake Up (2011).
Dance Performance by Victoria Hauke with Philipp van der Heijden and Chris Lechner. The music was precomposed and selected by the dancers in the process of the rehearsals, similar to the model of "Fluid Acts..." from 2010. The piece reflects the states of body and mind in dreams and brilliantly tackles the difficult task to present this idea in a defined movement."Meeting With You And Me" (2011)
A dance duo by Victoria Hauke and Dr. Alekhya Punjala from Hyderabad/ India. Two different traditions and techniques clash on stage in a fruitful state of curiosity. I contribute the electronic soundtrack, additionally Indian traditional musicians play live on stage. The piece has opened the German-Indian year-long cultural festival in 2011 in Hyderabad. More shows played in Trivandrum, Ahmedabad and Hamburg.Fluid Acts Of Deviation (2010).
Composition for a dance performance by the choreographer Victoria Hauke. The music I recorded for this piece should adopt to the individual timing of each performance. Therefore I developed a setup in which the performers could selct little snippets, parts, and loops of sound on a control panel on the wall. Like in a musical canon, every bit is compatible with the others. Additional motion sensors on the bodies allowed for continuous control of the sound. I was surprised with the result of every evening myself. Premiered at Fleetstreet Theater Hamburg on June 24 2010. With Victoria Hauke and Philip van der Heijden.
T.I.M.E. (2010)
Fello Soundtrack for a Dance Performance with members of the Nomad Dance Academy Skopje, Macedonia.
The piece exposed the work in progress of a group of dancers, one musician and a choreogrpher, site-specific in the city museum of Skopje which has been partly destroyed in the big earthquake in 1969. The giant clock on the wall stopped then and has never been repaired. Performed at the City Museum of Skopje on Oct 6 2010. Funded by NGO Kontrapunkt.
()else (2009)
Composition for a dance performance by Victoria Hauke and Olaf Reinecke. The first work in which I've performed solo with "Fello" on stage. The performance reflects the different states of mind and body in communication. How an expression reaches someone else cannot be stripped of the context in which we operate. Just as the word "else" cannot stand by its own. Premiered at Sprechwerk Hamburg, March 25 2009.
Super-Imposing (2008).
Composition for a dance performance by Victoria Hauke and Stefan Dreher. Two pieces by two individual choreographers are super-imposed, (= layered over each other). Premiered at Kampnagel Hamburg, May 2008.- Theatre
Das A-Casting (2011)
Flinntheater. Director: Sophia Stepf. Cast: Toks Körner, Lisa Stepf, Javeh Asefdjah. Premiered at Dock4, Kassel on Sept 22, playing at HAU3 (Berlin) in November.A fast, multi-layered performance on how we are trained to see and categorize others. The story plays partly in Germany, partly in India. I composed a soundtrack in cooperation with the Indian vocalist MD Pallavi Arun.
Here's a short video Trailer.
And here's a review (Deutsche Welle World).Edgar Wibeau (2005)
Composition for a theatre play, directed by Julius Seyfarth. Premiered at Kampnagel Hamburg
Ach ja, nein wirklich... (2003)
Assistant composer to Biber Gullatz in the theatre play by Rudi Beckaert, directed by Stefan Kimmig. Premiered at Staatstheater Stuttgart.

Music advisor in a theatre play, directed by Mathias Kaschig. Premiered at Gessnerallee Theatre Zürich (CH)- Silentmovies

- Metropolis
"Metropolis" (by Fritz Lang, 1927) is the classic of all silent movies with its depiction of the futuristic city and a romantic socialist plot. In 2004 I've composed a live soundtrack for the 90 min version (referred to as "American Cut") together with Jan Drees on guitar and electronics.
Playing alongside a silent movie is a very nice way around the dilemma of electronic live music. We don't like the image of an audience who watch musicians who watch their screens. Let's watch a movie together, and we musicians sit in the dark. It's like a modern orchestra pit, as the visual attention is not on us.
The movie is our conductor, we improvise, we synchronize, but also play pre-composed bits and samples. The biggest compliment from the audience is when they say that they forgot that there was actually a live band playing. "Metropolis" is very much fun to play to.

- Streik
Streik is a brilliant movie by Sergej Eisenstein from 1926. It tells the story of a russian factory in which the workers revolt to the oppression of their bosses. The montage techniques were revolutionary at the time. Eisenstein paints a moving image of this factory rather than following a straight narration. I've prepared a DJ set to play along to the movie, with live percussion on an amplified metal tube and some Fello improvisations. Premiered at Frankfurter Kinowoche in 2009.
Youtube Link to a snippet of the premiere- Der letzte Mann
In English this movie is called "The Last Laugh" (by F.W. Murnau, from 1926). It features Emil Jannings, one of world's first great movie stars in the 1920s. The plot shows him being thrown out of his job as hotel portier with high social reputation, then creep in the dirt, but in the happy ending get re-established by a strike of luck and smoke cigars. The movie is partly funny, partly disturbing, with a theatrical sense of timing. Together with Jan Drees on guitars and electronics I composed a soundtrack which was premiered at Filmmuseum Frankfurt in 2008.

- Radioplay
I've composed the music for the radioplay "Blood Empire" by A.L. Kennedy, directed by Beate Andres, commissioned by the SWR in 2010. The Dracula plot reflects capitalism and hierarchy through the metaphor of the hunger for blood of a Vampire. I've used my "Fello" instrument in the studio for the first time. Here's the intro:
