100 years hence in a fundamentalist society, Jacob Bergson is thrown into a musty prison, accused of writing The Believer’s Diary—a book that is sparking a revolution.  He maintains his innocence, as his cellmate provokes him, the powers that be threaten, and a young, sad guard tries to figure him out.  Prayer will challenge your ideas about the nature of morality through one man’s search for justice and redemption.  Prayer played to sold-out houses at the 2008 New York City Fringe festival. This will be its first full scale production.

The Write Stuff: A Workshop in Dramatic Writing
with Larry Herold & Kevin Kautzman

Saturday, March 10th from 2 to 5PM
Nouveau 47 Theatre @ the Magnolia Lounge, Fair Park, Dallas TX

In The Write Stuff, participants will explore two fundamental concepts dramatic writing: urgency and writing active monologues. They will have the opportunity to discuss these concepts with fellow participants and write original material. Emphasis will be placed on examples and tactics for implementation. Participants should bring materials to write by hand.

$30 ($25 for students) includes the workshop, a ticket to Jonathan Kravetz’s PRAYER at Nouveau 47 (Mar 8 to Mar 24), and $10 off your ticket to a performance of Larry Herold’s THE SPORTS PAGE at Stage West (Feb 9 to Mar 18 – simply mention the workshop when you call the box office). Class size is limited to 15, and participants must pre-register. Please provide your email address and indicate which day you would like see PRAYER. Participants will be asked to read a play prior to the workshop to facilitate discussion.

About the Playwrights

Larry Herold

… … is a playwright from Dallas. His play THE SPORTS PAGE was a winner of the 2011 Panndora Productions New Play Festival and won the 2010 Texas Playwriting Competition. Larry received his BA in Journalism from Baylor and his MFA in Creative Writing from Texas State University. His play PREACHEROSITY premiered in London in 2006. Kevin Kautzman

… … is a playwright originally from North Dakota pursuing his MFA at UT Austin. Honors include the Jerome and Michener Fellowships, the Tennessee Williams Scholarship, and the International Student Playscript award.
