The 2012 Movie

Guess What? There is ZERO evidence that the ancient Maya predicted the end of the world in 2012. The Maya calendar does not END in 2012. DOOMSDAY-2012 is a fallacious construct, a projection of exploitative and underinformed writers and Western nihilistic fantasy. A huge publicity campaign has begun for Hollywood's 2012 catastrophe movie, to open November 13, 2009. Is this Hollywood appropriation of 2012 mere harmless entertainment? At the very least, this entertainment comes at a price, and that is: the complete and utter misrepresentation of what 2012 meant to the creators of the 2012 calendar. I write about this in my new book, The 2012 Story. My nine books on Maya cosmology and tradition going back to 1989 explore the facts, the evidence, and the reconstruction of a lost paradigm.

Update: I was invited by Sony Pictures to attend and be interviewed at press conferences for the 2012 movies release, in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and on the red carpet in Hollywood, November 3, 2009. I took the opportunity in the hopes that a shred of truth could be conveyed to the public. Alas, although I was interviewed by CNN, BBC, MTV, NBC, CNBC, ABC, CBS, and dozens of other news outlets, what I had to say ended up on all the editing room floors. Why? Because I reported the truth: There is no evidence that the ancient Maya predicted the end of the world in 2012. The Hollywood illusion machine was working overtime on quelling this truth, but luckily my stealthy associates and I were able to record this mini-movie at the red carpet. It's amazing what one has to do in order to get the simple truth across to a media that is choking on its greedy obedience to falsehood, deception, and disinformation.

Since 1998, I have appeared in many documentaries including Earth Under Fire (1998), The Fifth Gate (1999), The Discovery Channel's "Places of Mystery series (in 2000)," and many others too numerous to list. An unfortuante trend since about 2005, especially evident in the 2012 documentaries produced by 1080 Productions for the History Channel, is the unethical and inaccurate co-opting of my work, enslaving it to the fantasies of doomsday pimps. Unfortunately I was hoodwinked several times by lying producers and my work as it appears in the mainstream marketplace is now confused with pole flips, Nostradamus prophecies, solar flares, and other manifestations. 2012 has become sticky paper for irrational and poorly researched oddities and unethical documentary producers who, despite my clarifications which were offered to them during the interviews, chose to misinform the public about the facts of the Maya calendar. I wrote about this problem in my op-ed piece "How Not To Make a 2012 Documentary."

Over 2,000 years ago the early Maya formulated a profound galactic cosmology. They saw that the sun, on the winter solstice, was slowly moving toward the heart of the galaxy. Naturally enough, with their uncorrupted intelligence intact, they suspected that the world would go through a transformation when the solar and the galactic planes aligned. They devised their Long Count calendar to target when the cosmic alignment would maximize, and that time is AD 2012. We are lucky that the brilliant skywatchers who devised the 2012 calendar left carved monuments for us to decode, and that they have survived the decay of centuries, so that we can know exactly what they prophesied and believed about 2012.

Incredibly, at the early Maya site of Izapa in southern Mexico, the galactic cosmology and a profound spiritual teaching are preserved. Izapa speaks to us of the Galactic Alignment in 2012 as a transformative nexus in time, a still-point turnabout, inviting us to reconnect with our cosmic heart and eternal source. With the Divine Wisdom. But how can that be achieved? What is the original, undiluted, prophecy for 2012, divined by those ancient mystics and stargazers who invented the 2012 calendar?

July 7, 2007. The Pyramid of Kukulcan at Chichen Itza is included in the new list of the Seven Wonders of the World. The shadow serpent that appears on the equinox is no doubt the reason.
