acta Community Theatre host companies from Holland, Poland and Germany for the COAST international festival of community theatre; a celebration of the power of community theatre, and an opportunity to explore contrasting stories of migration.

Discuss the methodologies which create relevant, quality participatory theatre devised from personal experience, for audiences who rarely attend mainstream theatre.

Shows performing include Down with the Dictator, by Cameroonian Writer Lydia Besong with Community Arts Northwest, Crossing Borders by the Somali community in Bristol working with acta and Zhong by the Chinese community in Rotterdam working with Rotterdams Wijktheater.

As well as six shows, attendees can also attend post-show discussions, practical workshops, and seminars with expert panels; guests including

Francois Matarasso, Regular Marvels,

Eugene van Erven, ICAF & Utrecht University,

Peter van den Hurk, founder RWT,

Hassan Mahamdallie, ACE Diversity,

Kerrie Schaefer, Exeter University.

Driving

From the Centre take the A38 south until you are on West Street turn right into The Chessels directly right into British Road follow it round to South Street and turn second right into Gladstone Street

From the M5  take junction 18 off the M5 then follow the A4 (Portway) until you reach Cumberland Basin, follow the signs for the airport, then Bedminster, keeping in the left hand lane follow the road, which turns in to Winterstoke Road. Turn into the first left by a car showroom into Marsh Road. Follow the road round past Bristol City Football ground on you right and a park on your left.  You follow the road round until you are in North Street (past the Tobacco Factory and shops), continue, going straight over the mini roundabout another 500 metres until you reach a pub called “The Spotted Cow” on your right. Then turn right into South Street and the first left in to Gladstone Street. On Gladstone Street there is a small drive way called Stanley Street, we are a big red building at the end of this street.

From Temple Meads Train Station– Either a 10 minute taxi ride, which should cost about £6.00, or you will need to get two buses one from the station into the centre (they are clearly marked) then one of the above buses to the acta centre, (this will probably take about 45 minutes).

The acta centre is a 15 minute walk or 5 minute cycle from the Centre.
