Scribus/Aqua Binary Snapshot 2006-05-29

Scribus/Aqua is a port of Scribus to a native Aqua build using Qt Free for MacOSX.
The latest snapshot is based on 1.3.3.2. Latest Ghostscript is based on AFPL GS 8.54.

This package and the libraries are PPC only. They are not Universal and will not run on Intel based Macs.

Scribus and the libraries below are built on OSX 10.3.9.

Brief install instructions for Scribus/Aqua

You need:

1. Scribus.app itself which can be placed anywhere, eg. into /Applications .
2. Some support libraries, which should be moved to /Library/Frameworks :
   • Qt.framework
   • Freetype.framework
   • Fontconfig2.framework
   • libart.framework
   • libexpat.framework
   • libjpeg.framework
   • liblcms.framework
   • libpng.framework
   • libtiff.framework

Please note that these framework bundles go directly into /Library/Frameworks ; it does not work to put them into some subdirectory!

For your convenience these frameworks are combined in two download files, Libraries-A.tar.bz2 for Qt, Freetype and Fontconfig, and Libraries-B.tar.bz2 for the rest. Remember, if you have folders named "Libraries-A" or "Libraries-B" in the /Library/Frameworks folder, you made a mistake!

Update:

If you already have an earlier version (from October 10 or later) of Scribus/Aqua and its libraries installed, you do not need to re-install the libraries

Ghostscript:

If you don't have Ghostscript installed yet, you can also download a precompiled Ghostscript framework. You have the choice between AFPL-Ghostscript 8.54 with the licence described in Ghostscript.framework/doc/Public.htm, and Ghostscript 8.50. Please note that the AFPL licence is not as permissive as the GPL. See below for sourcecode and how the framework was compiled

Either framework has to be installed in /Library/Frameworks/ and nowhere else.

After that the Ghostscript executable is located at:

/Library/Frameworks/Ghostscript.framework/bin/gsc

You should enter this location in Edit->Preferences->External Tools.
