The words you choose for your ceremony will tell people what this awesome partnership means to you. Your ceremony should reflect who you are, what you believe and where your love will take the two of you as you build your life together.
I meet couples from all over New Jersey, across the country and around the world. Each is unique, having their own ideas and vision about what they want to include in their ceremony. I've performed ceremonies that have included the unity sand, unity candle, loving wine cup, recognition of children, hand binding, presentation of roses to mothers and poems written and read by family members or friends.
Many couples choose to incorporate wedding customs popular in other countries or cultures, such as the Jewish Breaking of the Glass, the Greek Stefana (Crowns) or the Indian Jaimala (Garland Exchange). Beach weddings are always popular and fun. One ceremony I performed included the merging of two goldfish. It was unique, hysterical and everybody loved it. A handfasting ceremony was also one of my more memorable. Just as we were getting ready to start, a fire alarm started ringing and everyone had to evacuate the premises. As you've probably guessed, it was a false alarm — their ceremony became known as The Fire Alarm Wedding.
