Thank you for your support of IAVA. How can we help you?
IAVA's DC team is the leader in working for veterans benefits in Washingotn. Having successfully fought for the Post 9/11 GI Bill and the only jobs bill to get passed into law in 2011, the policy team is frequently called upon to testify before Congress and to appear in news interviews. To schedule an interview with our policy team click here.
To read more about our top legislative priorities check out our 2011 Policy Agenda.
As responsible stewards of our donors' investments, IAVA strives to maximize the value of every dollar donated to improve the lives of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and their families. With over 87% of our expenses directed to programmatic services, IAVA is distinguished among Veterans Service Organizations – and the nonprofit sector – for efficiency and accountability. And with the generous support of our corporate sponsors, every dollar donated to IAVA returns more than $10 in in-kind support to veterans and their families. Please consider making a gift today, or contact us to find out how you can raise funds to support the New Greatest Generation.

Thank you for your service and for your support of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America.
We welcome you as a veteran supporter. Our grassroots mobilization of our civilian and veteran supporter base is often what gets the job done when push comes to shove on Capitol Hill. Your feedback is important to us, and whenever possible we try diligently to work with the other Veterans Service Organizations to implement changes that will improve the quality of life for all veterans, regardless of the circumstances of their service.
Our confirmed member veteran status is limited to those who deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan after 9/11. This is not to be exclusionary, but rather as function of the very different nature of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom. While there are certainly some similarities across any war, we feel that we are able to be most effective as an organization by focusing on the issues unique to this most current generation of veterans. This especially includes the areas of mental health, traumatic brain injury, dire suicide statistics, multiple deployments, women's issues, and so on.

If your paperwork has not been submitted or approved, you are not a confirmed member and you do not have a member number.
A confirmed member is someone who has served in Iraq or Afghanistan, or been forward deployed in those theaters of operations, after 9/11 and has submitted paperwork to verify their service.
Become a confirmed member today!
Below is a partial list of paperwork we will accept, this list is not all inclusive. Please send us ONE of the following documents in a non-editable format (i.e. PDF or .JPG files) and smaller than 5 MB:

Here is a list of the most common reasons someone will not be approved after sending in paperwwork.
- Paperwork failed to upload/transmit properly because it was over 5MB

How to start a partnership with IAVA
IAVA works with a wide variety of companies, organizations, and nonprofits. We strive to build unique programs that leverage our partners’ strengths to create dynamic, innovative, and impactful programming for America’s New Greatest Generation. In the past year, our partnerships have impacted the lives of over 30,000 veterans and their families, have garnered more than $4 million in donated media, and have reached more than 30 million people. If you’d like to learn more about partnering with IAVA, check out our FAQ page.

As our proprietary online platform that connects member veterans to resources, rewards and benefits, IAVA's The Rucksack has been a game-changing tool for this generation of veterans. Launched in June 2010, The Rucksack is a "Ticketmaster for Vets" and has connected tens of thousands Iraq and Afghanistan veterans with our exclusive partner programs. Veterans can log on andrequest free tickets, giveaways, resources, workshops, and more. Furthermore, to support and distribute opportunities in IAVA's focus areas in health, education, employment, and community, The Rucksack is one of our most popular and visited online tools to connect veterans to MBA test preparation courses, resume-writing workshops with Google, and gift certificates for new clothes from jcpenney -- just to name a few.
Unless specified otherwise, IAVA does NOT provide accommodations or transportation to and from events. We ask that you do not request rewards if you are unable to coordinate your own transportation.
Click here and submit the email address you registered with. We will email you your member number.
When you go to The Rucksack homepage, you can search for event tickets and giveaways in your area by typing in your zip code and clicking “Search.” To put in a request for tickets or an event in your area, simply click on “Request Now” to sign up. If all tickets for an event have been requested, you can add your name to the Waitlist and we will contact you if tickets become available.
Most rewards are available on a first-come-first-served basis. However, Premium Rewards are available on an extremely limited basis. All members may request Premium Rewards, but only a lucky few veterans will receive them. If you don't get a Premium Reward, please try submitting for the next available opportunity.
When you sign up for a reward with availability left, you may get a tentative confirmation notice for the event. After your request is reviewed, you will receive a final confirmation notice if you are officially confirmed for the reward, with instructions for how to claim the reward.
After a reward fills up, you may be placed on the waitlist in case space opens up on the reward list.
Waitlist positions are first-come-first-served. Unfortunately, we cannot tell you what position you are on the waitlist.
When you receive final confirmation of a reward, you will also receive instructions for how to claim it via email.
Rewards can be denied for a variety of reasons, including eligibility requirements, multiple requests for the same reward, or event capacity. If you have further questions about why your request was denied, you can contact us for more info.
We appreciate friends and family supporting the nation’s newest generation of heroes. Unfortunately, in order to become a member of IAVA, the only person who can sign up for membership is the person who has served. IAVA recognizes that you don’t have to be a veteran to support the veterans’ movement. We welcome all family and friends to sign up to become supporters.
It is important to us that any tickets or giveaways in The Rucksack are given to confirmed veterans of OEF and OIF. As a small non-profit, IAVA receives and processes a large number of applications every day. Processing paperwork can take up to 2-3 business days. Once we have confirmed your service, you will receive your member number and can begin requesting giveaways and tickets in The Rucksack.
There is no catch! Rucksack rewards are free to all IAVA Member Veterans who verify their status as an Operation Enduring Freedom (2001-Present) or Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003-Present) veteran. The rewards are donated to IAVA by corporate sponsors and organizations nationwide seeking to support Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and their families.
Rucksack rewards are available to all IAVA confirmed member veterans. Membership is free to confirmed veterans of Iraq (OIF) and Afghanistan (OEF).
