About SLAB
Slab is a trio of like-minded musicians based in Digbeth, Birmingham (UK) at Hellfire Studios. I say like-minded, but their musical influences when written down are a complete mishmash of a metal/punk/indie/goth amalgamated lump. Since the summer of 2005 this gristle in audio form has been stirring the metal scene with its stunning live performances and studio work. Slab’s debut album “Betray the Past… Infect the Future” was snapped-up by Meltdown Records and received encouraging reviews in 2008. Live-wise they have played over 250 shows in their relatively short history, crushing audiences on several full UK tours and forays into Europe. Their tight barrage keeps on establishing an ever-growing fanbase and an unconfirmed label of The hardest-working band in Brum.
But this site is not here to concentrate on the past. It is being developed to showcase the arrival of Slab’s second studio album “Megafaunal Genocide“.
“Betray the Past…” was a debut album to be proud of. But Jake, Andy, and Jim knew this was Slab finding its feet.
“Megafaunal Genocide” is a metal band running on hot coals and not even flinching. Thanks to the amazing production work of Ajeet Gill and the over-whelming artistic imagery of Purdeep Singh, Slab will be bringing to a stagnating music scene a work that will purely stun.
If there is a theme running through [the album] it’s about wanting to return to nature and commune with the wild part of life. There is so much horror in our world but there is also so much beauty. For every horrific question we ask, there is a serene and primal answer. – Jake Cowing, March 2010
Late last year we self-released our new album ‘Megafaunal Genocide’. It is available to download through various sites (iTunes, amazon etc) and physical copies can be obtained through the shop at SLAB’s own website (www.ontheslab.co.uk). We’ve started to use our own site far more than myspace which I think in most peoples’ opinion has had its day! It is kept up to date by our very own Bass/Web Lord Big Jim and has full blogs plus music, video, photos, gig dates etc etc.
2011 is about one thing for SLAB. Gigs. We only have a few confirmed at the minute (29th January at The Flapper in Birmingham w/ Kyrbgrinder and 1st May in Ashton Under-Lyne with GBH being standouts), but we are looking to do more than ever this year to push the album out. Keep your eye on our website to see if we’re gonna be anywhere near you! Also, if anyone has any gig suggestions or can help out with anything, please let us know, we’ll play anywhere!!
Lastly, we’d just like to say a huge CHEEERRRSSSS!!! to everyone who has helped us (and keeps helping us!) over the last five + years. All the people who have come to shows, bands we’ve played with, venues and promoters who’ve put us on, people we’ve had a beer with and anyone who’s had a listen to us, we really fucking appreciate it. LONG MAY IT CONTINUE!!!
Hopefully see you all soon!!!!
Jake, Jim, Kimbo. SLAB
