The Gaslamp Quarter National Historic District is located in the heart of Downtown San Diego, California. Our neighborhood is eight blocks long (from Broadway to Harbor Drive) and a little more than two blocks wide (4th, 5th & 6th Avenues) for a total of 16 and one half blocks. The area is best known for our stunning examples of Victorian Architecture and for being a fabulous entertainment destination. There are currently more than 150 diverse Restaurants, Nightclubs, Lounges and Live music venues. We have another 80 shops, boutiques and personal service providers. There are more than 20 hotels directly adjacent to the neighborhood and we are directly across the street from the San Diego Convention Center and Major League Baseball's Petco Park, home to the San Diego Padres.

From I-5 South
Drive past the airport toward the downtown San Diego skyline. Take the Front Street/Civic Center exit. Continue down Front Street twelve blocks to Market St and turn left (east). The intersection of 5th and Market is the center of the Gaslamp Quarter.
From I-5 North
In Downtown San Diego, take the 6th Ave. exit. Go left (south) on 6th Ave. In nine blocks you will cross Broadway to enter the Gaslamp Quarter at it's northern end.
From Highway 94 West
The highway ends and becomes F Street in Downtown San Diego. Continue west down F Street twelve blocks to enter the Gaslamp Quarter at Sixth Ave from the east.
From Highway 163 South
Drive south through Balboa Park and the highway becomes 10th Ave. Continue south on 10th Ave six blocks to F Street. Turn right (west) on F Street and go four blocks to enter the Gaslamp at 6th Ave at it's northern end.

The rehabilitation of this highway that runs through Balboa Park into downtown San Diego will cause ongoing closures this summer. Most common will be one lane closure during daytime hours but some full closures can be expected on Friday & Saturday Nights. Resources – The Gaslamp Quarter is one of Southern California’s most popular destinations. This makes free parking rare but reasonably priced parking is normally available and easy to access, if you know where to look. Understanding our network is the key to saving time and money.
The National Historic District sees the most visitors on nights & weekends and during Special Events like festivals, conventions and Major League Baseball games. We have a combination of metered street parking, garages and surface lots in and around the district.
Note that a majority of our traffic grid contains numbered streets that run North/South (4th , 5th & 6th Ave) and alphabet based streets that run East /West (E Street, F Street, G Street, Market Street, Island Ave., J Street, K Street and L Street)
Metered Street Parking – Spots are limited but inexpensive. 2011 rates are $1.25 per hour. They all accept coins and some also accept credit cards. Currently meters run through 6 pm and there is no enforcement on Sundays, New Year's Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, President's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day (San Diego Municipal Code, Section 86.01).
Community Parking Structures
“Park-it-on-Market” and the “6th & K Parkade”
Both of these community garages are directly adjacent to the Gaslamp. They both have multiple entry points and require cash for payment upon exit. They have different rates for daytime parking (Hourly) vs. events & evening parking (Flat Rate). Parkers that stay past 6 pm pay the daytime hourly plus the night flat rate. Parkers that stay past 3 am pay the flat rate plus daily hourly rate. Event Rates are good for 12 hours from the time of entry, after which regular public parking rates apply. They do not offer in-and-out privileges unless you contract with them for a monthly permit and they offer a variety of permit options. Both structures are run by Ace Parking under contract by CCDC. Horton Plaza
We neighbor a shopping mall on our West side. They have adjacent structures that are convenient to many Gaslamp locations. The mall will validate parking for up to three hours with purchase and then they charge per hour. Note that they have areas marked with Fruits or marked with Vegetables to help you find your vehicle when you return and they have systems in place to curb validation fraud. They often have unique programming like Short term parking for hotel guests (includes In-and-out) and Industry rates. Call Manager for Specifics (619) 233-1491
MORE ALTERNATIVES
Surface lots
There are many surface lots that surround the Gaslamp Quarter. Some have active attendants on duty that will collect payment as you enter and some use automated attendants that will accept your credit card in return for a voucher you leave on your dash. Rates vary based on season, ballgames and special events. A quick review of the Gaslamp Parking map will help you determine which areas are closer to your destination but keep in mind that Gaslamp was designed with blocks that are smaller than many other communities and we also have a collection gorgeous Historic buildings & world class people watching to view while you stroll through the neighborhood. A few blocks on our wide brick sidewalks should be a pleasure.

Valet Service
Many of our popular locations work with local parking service providers to offer you the convenience of Valet parking. Look for their set-ups, placed out front, along our main streets and pull into their loading zones for service. Pricing & hours vary significantly. Note the time that the Valet operation closes and instructions for late retrieval before you head off.

Gaslamp City Square> 4th Ave – South of Island
7th Ave, north of E Street> Two big structures on either side of this block are convenient for locations in the Northern portion of the Gaslamp Quarter
5th Ave, north of Broadway> Across the street from the House of Blues, enter on the left side.
The San Diego Convention Center > Pricing is reduced when there is no Convention or Special event utilizing their space and it is very close to the South end of Gaslamp & our iconic archway.
Hotels> Most of the large hotels in Gaslamp have parking resources that utilize a valet to place you in their garage or conveniently off-site. If you find yourself in the situation where you are willing to pay a bit more for the convenience, it is good to know about these resources too.

You can ride the San Diego Bus or Trolley to the Gaslamp Quarter
The Trolley runs from the Mexican border, South Bay, East County, Old Town and Mission Valley. Ride the Orange Line to the Gaslamp Quarter Station at the south end of Fifth Avenue or get off at the 5th Avenue Station and walk one block south on C Street. Buses take a variety of routes.
