“[Panic Of Looking] draws out the tonality of speech via placid melodic counterpoint and euphoric backing vocals, recalling the joyous world-pop of an Eno/Byrne collaboration” – Pitchfork

“Eno composes eerie space music to Holland’s spoken word expositions … [The title track] is one of the more haunting tunes of the EP” – MTV

The Role Of Technology In Music

Last week Brian Eno launched a new exhibition at the Science Museum with a talk about the role of technology in music.  The Telegraph newspaper have reproduced the talk, which you can read online now at their website

Oramics to Electronica runs until 1st December 2011 at London’s Science museum, with focus on the BBC Radiophonic Workshop and the work of  Dorothy Oram.

“The story of Electronic Music, from the sound experiments of the 1950s through the digital revolution to today, is one of invention and innovation. Developed with a team of electronic musicians, our exhibition charts this history with examples of music making technology spanning more than 50 years.”

“It is, frankly, classic Eno.” BBC Music

“A fascinating, magnetic experiment in sound” Los Angeles Times

“Striking speaking voices … recite [Rick] Holland’s lines, which express cosmic wonderment and artistic ambition.  Then Mr. Eno stretched and tweaked those recordings to bring out quirks in the speakers’ enunciation and tone, and, pushing the songs further into a realm of artificiality, added a glitchy electronic soundtrack.” New York Times

“Brian Eno’s second album for Warp Records is a gem. Words by poet Rick Holland are set against lush soundscapes and subtle, hazy melodies. Superb.” **** Big Issue
