NEOSCC Launches Young Leader Events

spacer

The Northeast Ohio Sustainable Communities Consortium (NEOSCC) is launching a regional campaign for a vibrant future and needs your help. Your ideas will help create a vibrant Northeast Ohio. These events will be dialogue-driven sessions for young regional leaders, sponsored by the NEOSCC and hosted by The Civic Commons.

These interactive mixers will tackle what it means - and what we need - to build a vibrant community. We'll brainstorm ideas, connect local priorities with regional planning efforts, introduce NEOSCC's work and share opportunities to collaborate.

Everyone is welcome - Dreamers, Planners, Innovators, Young Leaders - YOU and YOUR FRIENDS! All events are FREE. Complementary appetizers and a cash bar are available. Come early and stay late.

Earth Day Coalition will be presenting EarthFest 2012 on Sunday, April 22nd from 10am-5pm at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. EarthFest is Ohio's largest environmental education event and the longest running Earth Day celebration in the nation. NEOSCC is proud to be an exhibitor and sponsor for this year's event.

In partnership with the Sustainable Cleveland 2019 initiative, EarthFest will be celebrating the "Year of Local and Sustainable Food." The new local and sustainable food exhibit area will feature a 72' x 20' hoop house with exhibits that include composting, rain gardens, urban farms, businesses and restaurants that contribute to Cleveland's growing local food economy.

Additional exhibit areas will include innovations in the non-profit sector, family fun activities, clean transportation, health and fitness, environmental science, green home improvement, and all day entertainment.

Kick-off EarthFest activities at 9am with the annual Walk for the Earth. Registered participants receive free admission to EarthFest, are eligible for prizes and are invited to enjoy refreshments in the Walk reception tent. Regular zoo admission includes all zoo exhibits and EarthFest activities. Free admission will also be given to those who ride the free RTA shuttle from Cleveland Public Square to EarthFest.

A Plan for Every Day: NEO Planning Initiatives Compilation

spacer

In the development of the Existing Conditions and Trends/Issues Report, the NEOSCC has created a compilation of pre-existing policy plans and initiatives available across the Northeast Ohio region. The list is currently sortable by organization, year and plan name; a subject matter sort will be available soon. The compilation file is also available for download.

This list is a work in progress and we would like your feedback. What are we missing? Please check back as the list grows and our database evolves. Feel free to email us suggestions for addition.

How are we using land?

spacer

As part of its planning initiative, the NEOSCC has completed the first-ever 12-county regional existing land use map. This parcel-based map relies on detailed real estate information provided by the region's 12 county auditors. Various Consortium members, led by Bob Nau of the Stark County Area Transportation Study and the Stark County Regional Planning Commission and Anthony Kobak of NEOSCC, developed this first ever collaborative GIS map. The resulting map is scalable to individual communities and counties and can be disaggregated to show in clear detail the location of specific land uses such as industrial, commercial, and park lands. Because it is based on current real estate data, the map also provides a real-time picture of vacant urbanized land throughout the region. The land use map and other similar regional planning tools are being developed for the NEOSCC planning process and the entire Northeast Ohio community. Click here for a pdf version.
