Mon, 16 Apr 2012

Man, after the Firkinteenth I thought we could catch a breath. Nope no doin. We got some stuff for you this week.

This Week
Wednesday Night is Quizzo with Quizmaster Pete with The Annual 4/20 Quizzo. 8pm on our 2nd floor.

Friday is another two-fer.
1) It's 420 on 04/20 when Everybody Must Drink Stone and we tap lots of great and often rather rare Stone beers. As usual, despite our best efforts, the line-up will be a little different from the signs and The Log. The final line-up will be up on Wednesday. The event is officially 7pm to 9pm, but most of the beers should be on tap all day. Stone Brewing will be springing for stickers! Free stickers.

2) Christine Marie is the latest artist to be displaying her work on our 2nd floor. There will be a meet and greet grand opening reception sort of thing at 8:30pm. If you cheat and check out her work upstairs before Friday, we won't tell. Just act surprised, well not surprised but like you are seeing it for the first time.

Saturday we have Earth Day with Long Trail. We will have two Long Trail beers on tap. Buy a pint, get to keep the glass plus a sapling. 7pm. While supplies last, one per customer.

Draft Beer Update

Bar Harbor Cadillac Mountain Stout replaced Weyerbacher Heresy. Cadillac Mountain has been around for a while, but I think this is the first time we have had on tap at the Grey Lodge. It gets great reviews.

Old Forge T-Rail Pale Ale replaced Sierra Nevada Torpedo. Old Forge is located in Danville PA. The brewer/owner is from Fox Chase. If you find yourself in Danville, you should pop in; it's a really great brewpub. But why go to Danville when Old Forge comes to us here in Mayfair.

Sat, 14 Apr 2012

First of all thanks to everyone who attend yesterday and helped to a pretty much perfect Firkinteenth.

Cask Update as of 12noon
Still a little left:

Yards ESA
Sly Fox Chester County Brown

Kicked:
Prism White Lightning
Ithaca Nut Brown
Weyerbacher Blanche
Philadelphia Engine 1892 Stout

Draft Beer Update

Sierra Nevada Torpedo replaced Philadelphia Newbold IPA. Torpedo is a great IPA, but we expect nothing less from Sierra Nevada.

Evil Genius Witty Will replaced Weyerbacher Blanche. Evil Genius is a mostly local microbrewery that contract brews in Indiana. This is their wit beer which is named for William Shakespeare. If I ever make a Shakespeare beer, it will be a Dark Mild called "Two Beers or Not Two Beers, What is the Question?"

8pm Update:

Innis & Gunn Rum Cask Oak Aged Beer replaced Twin Lakes Tweeds Tavern Stout. Innis & Gunn Rum Cask Oak Aged Beer is what the name tells you it is.

Great Lakes Doppelrock is now on and it is a malty double bock.

The firkin of Yards ESA has kicked.

Draft Beer Update
Lost Abbey Serpent Stout is back, replacing the sixtel of Sixpoint Mad Scientist Series #7 Cran-Porter. Serpent Stout is a very high octane, big flavor stout.

The sixtel of Sixpoint Mad Scientists #8 Ich Bin Kein. We should able to get enough space in the walk-in to tap another beer in a few hours.

Thu, 12 Apr 2012

All of us here at the Grey Lodge are all scurrying around getting ready for tomorrow. We have a little cask event that we do.

Kicked: Flying Fish Abbey Dubbel, Oskar Blues Dales Pale Ale, and Genesee Cream Ale.

Tapped:
Victory Helles Fire - Another smoked beer from Victory. I suspect Bill and Ron love Bamberg as much as I do; this is a least the 5th smoked beer from Victory for those of us who are keeping score. The standard Bamberg rauchbier is an amber smoked lager. The name implies that this one is a golden smoked lager. I will definitely have one tonight before I head home.

Abbey of Christ in the Desert Monk's Tripel - We had this one on way back last June when Brother Christian visited us for Philly Beer Week. Well it's back! There was pretty much no info on it back then. And there still isn't. This one's a mystery. We know it's an Belgian Tripel style, but that's all we got.

Philadelphia Newbold IPA - if you haven't had Newbold in a while, give it a try. It might well be the IPA you expect it to be.

Draft Beer Update:

Weyerbacher Blanche replaced Prism Shady Blonde. Weyerbacher Blanche is an awesomely delicious Belgian white.

This Week at the Grey Lodge
Our April marathon of events continues.

Tuesday is the monthly Lucky 13 Homebrew Club meeting. We have a great and diverse group of people in the club and our meetings are always a lot of fun. I definitely look forward to them every month. 7:30pm on our 2nd floor.

Wednesday is Quizzo with Quizmaster Chris3. 8pm on our 2nd floor

Thursday is Rex-Goliath Day, our first ever wine event. 6pm to 8pm. Both floors.

Friday is Friday the Firkinteenth, our 25th and the second of 2012. Casks will start to get tapped at noon. The F13 Webpage will be updated as the week progresses. As usual we open at 10am. Casks: noon to ? Casks on on the 1st floor. 2nd floor open all day and night for food.

Draft Beer Update

Weyerbacher Heresy replaced the sixtel of Harpoon Leviathan Quad. Heresy is an imperial stout aged in whiskey barrels. This is great for when you want a big intense beer.

Twin Lakes Tweeds Tavern Stout
returned replacing the sixtel of Sierra Nevada Ovila Quad. This is great when you want a smaller beer that is still full of flavor but lower in ABV and less intense.

Two stouts for whichever mood you are in.
