The New Friends of the Oakland Public Library presents "First Mothers: The
Women Who Raised America's Presidents" an original play by L. W. McCullough,

Traveling WEST from ROUTE 4
From Rte 4, take Rte 208 North into Rte 287. Take Exit 58, Oakland. Turn left at the light at the end of
the ramp onto Ramapo Valley Road (Rte. 202). At the second light, turn right onto Oak Street. Make
the first left into Municipal Plaza. The Library is on your left.
Traveling NORTH on Rte 208
Take Rte 208 North into Rte 287. Take Exit 58, Oakland. Turn left at the light at the end of the ramp
onto Ramapo Valley Road (Rte. 202). At the second light, turn right onto Oak Street. Make the first left
into Municipal Plaza. The Library is on your left.
Traveling NORTH on Rte 287
Take Exit 58, Oakland. Turn left at the light at the end of the ramp onto West Oakland Ave. At the light
at the railroad tracks, make a right onto Ramapo Valley Road (Rte. 202). At the first light, turn right
onto Oak Street. Make the first left into Municipal Plaza. The Library is on your left.
Traveling SOUTH on Rte 287
Take Exit 58, Oakland. Turn left at the light at the end of the ramp onto Ramapo Valley Road (Rte. 202).

The Oakland Public Library is a cultural center facilitating timely access to information, ideas and
forms of creative expression.
The mission of the Oakland Public Library is to provide library resources and services to meet the
evolving educational, cultural, recreational and informational needs of the community and to
encourage lifelong learning.
The Library will accomplish this mission effectively by providing excellence in its staff, facilities,
collections, technology and programs and by participating in cooperative networks, and community
and business partnerships.
The Library is a dynamic, ever-changing resource center responding to the needs of the public it
serves.
The Library upholds the principles of intellectual freedom.
The Library upholds the public’s right to know by providing people of all ages with access to and
guidance regarding information and collections which reflect diverse points of view.

Board of Trustees at the Oakland Public Library
The Oakland Public Library Board of Trustees is responsible for setting overall policy and for
overseeing the finances of the library so the library can fulfill its mission and provide excellent service
to the community.
The Board is composed of five trustees who are appointed by the Mayor of the Borough of Oakland
for 5-year terms and two ex-officio members – the Superintendent of Schools and the Mayor.

Meetings start at 7:00 pm at the library and are open to the public. Minutes are available upon request with a fee of $15 per copy. Meeting Rooms Meeting rooms are available to the public in the Oakland Public Library, subject to our Meeting Room Policy. If you would like to use a meeting room, please fill out our Meeting Room Application Form and our Meeting Room Agreement. BCCLS (Bergen County Cooperative Library Services) The Oakland Public Library is a member of BCCLS (โBucklesโ) which is composed of 75 public libraries mostly in Bergen County. Each library is separate and independent and is supported by its own community. However, the libraries share the computer network, database, and circulation system operated by BCCLS. Each BCCLS library shares its resources with other members through reciprocal borrowing programs. These include the law library used by the State Legislature, the Talking Book and Braille Center, and the premier collection of local history in New Jersey. The Library Development Bureau supports local libraries like Oakland by funding valuable shared reference services and databases and the state- wide delivery service for sharing books.
