Time In Tributes
As dedicated as USSoccerPlayers.com is to bringing you up-to-date soccer news and information, the United States National Soccer Team Players are as determined to fight leukemia and other blood-related cancers. These diseases devastate the lives of patients, family members and friends. This section is devoted to these people, our honorary teammates, who have battled with illness and those who continue to experience the effects of blood-related cancers.
Despite the suffering that these individuals endure, every day they rise up to bear the weight of their illnesses in remarkable ways. With the help of friends, family and doctors, these brave cancer patients cope with painful treatment procedures and persevere despite various limitations of their diseases. These patients actively take control of their lives, keeping the suffering at bay, while fulfilling daily goals and enjoying life.
All of these individuals are passionate about soccer, and those who cannot play have maintained strong connections with the sport, their teammates and their coaches. As soccer enthusiasts, we are aware that the joy and excitement of playing the game can also be coupled with strenuous and challenging circumstances. Sometimes we get injured. Other times we have to play through adverse weather conditions. Can you remember a time that you had to push yourself the extra mile when you felt like you had already exhausted all of your energy sources? These cancer patients, who remain devoted to soccer, manage hardships that far exceed any challenge that we may face on the field.
It is for this reason that we have taken the time to honor those who are fighting leukemia and other blood-related cancers. In addition to paying tribute to them in this section of USSoccerPlayers.com, the National Soccer Hall of Fame is helping us launch the Time In section of the Walk of Fame. One marker brick honors patients currently battling leukemia, and the second brick honors and remembers the life of Jackson Alea, our teammate and inspiration for the Time In program.
We have met the U.S. National team players, and now it is time to meet our other teammates in the fight against blood-related cancers -- the patients. There is plenty to learn from their bravery, perseverance and spirit.
