Kristen Bell And Dax Shepard’s Relationship Inspires ‘Hit And Run’
April 19, 2012 | 0 Comments

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are putting their love on the line, so to speak, for the sake of their upcoming action-packed R-rated comedy “Hit and Run.”

The plot revolves around former getaway driver Charlie Bronson (Shepard), who busts out of the Witness Protection Program to drive his girlfriend (Bell) to Los Angeles so she can land her dream job. Their road trip becomes increasingly complicated and dangerous when they are chased by the feds (led by Tom Arnold) and later Charlie’s former gang of criminals (led by Bradley Cooper).

When MTV News caught up with the fun-loving, real-life couple recently, they provided expert teasery and commentary as to why we’ll all be dying to see them onscreen together in the film.

“The first year or so we were dating, we wrestled a lot with, you know, my past,” said Shepard, who also wrote and directed the movie.

“Uncovering details of his sordid lifestyle,” Bell added.

“The movie became a metaphor for that, for a couple dealing with people’s past,” Shepard explained. “So we put that in a car-chase movie.”

“Of course,” Bell said with a smile.

“Naturally, it’s such an easy fit,” Shepard agreed. “Where I am in Witness Protection and Kristen’s [character] is a professor.”

“Of course,” Bell agreed again with a smile.

“Naturally. And, you know, I have an even shadier past than I’ve really let on, and that kind of becomes obvious over the course of me trying to drive her to L.A.,” Shepard said.

“The sh– hits the fan, basically, to sum it all up,” Bell offered.

And if Shepard and Bell’s witty and pretty adorable repartee doesn’t entice you to check out “Hit and Run” when it hits theaters August 24, you should also know that there are a lot of fancy and fun cars in the film.

“I play one of the supporting characters in the film,” Bell said. “The lead lady is played by Lady Lincoln, this 1967 Lincoln that Dax has … ”

” … sunk our savings [into],” Shepard admitted.

“Yes, for years, [he] spent every paycheck on and put a lot of heart and soul into,” Bell added. “He put race-car bucket seats in, 5-point harnesses … ”

” … 700 horsepower,” Shepard cut in.

“700 horsepower. I got this,” Bell said to Shepard. “It’s beautiful. There are a lot of cars in the movie.”

“If you couldn’t bring 500 horsepower to the table, your vehicle was not invited to be in it,” Shepard said.

‘Veronica Mars’: Kristen Bell Reveals What Her Iconic Character Is Up To Now
April 13, 2012 | 0 Comments

“Veronica Mars” is returning to TV … well, sort of. “Veronica Mars” reruns are returning to TV! The beloved, short-lived drama about a sassy teen sleuth (Kristen Bell) is coming to SOAPnet this month, marking the first time it’s aired on TV since the series ended in 2007.

To celebrate the show’s arrival, SOAPnet is airing am 11-hour marathon on Sun., April 15 from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. ET before moving to its regular timeslots. Starting Mon., April 16, “Veronica Mars” will air Monday-Friday at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.; Saturdays from 1-4 p.m.; and Sundays 10 a.m.-1 p.m. So much “Mars,” so little time.

Series star Kristen Bell, who can now be seen in Showtime’s “House of Lies,” looked back on her time on the show. This may not make up for the not-dead-yet “Veronica Mars” movie — you can read Bell’s hopes about project here — but Bell was eager to dish on what exactly Ms. Mars would be doing now.

“She’s infiltrating some Northeastern state in a political venture to begin her quest to be president,” Bell told me in a HuffPost TV interview in late December. President Mars? Bell said that’s a big dream the fictional character “probably wouldn’t follow through with.”

“What is Veronica Mars doing? She’s definitely not married with three kids in Tennessee, I can tell you that much,” she said.

Fans will remember creator Rob Thomas’ Season 4 pitch was about Special Agent Veronica Mars, FBI and Season 3 ended with the character landing an internship with the Bureau. So what about her big FBI dreams?

“She could be,” Bell said. “She’s probably working in Homeland Security”

There you have it: Veronica Mars, Homeland Security agent. Working side by side with “Homeland’s” Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes)? We can dream.

House of Lies Boss: Season Finale Will Leave Everything "In a Terrible State of Disarray"
March 30, 2012 | 0 Comments

If there’s one thing House of Lies viewers have learned about Marty Kaan (Don Cheadle) and his “pod” at Galweather & Stearn, it’s that they’ll go to any lengths necessary to get the job done. So now that the company’s merger with MetroCapital has gotten the green light, expect the quartet to go to even greater extremes to save themselves.

“Their backs are truly against a wall,” Ben Schwartz told reporters earlier this week. “They’re scrambling to get air and not die, and killing anybody they can to get air.”

However, Marty’s problems aren’t limited to the boardroom. In Sunday’s season finale (10/9c on Showtime), he is also headed for a heated courtroom battle with his ex-wife and work rival Monica (Dawn Olivieri) over their son Roscoe. “The merger, while very important, is not as important as the things that happen between the characters,” series boss Matthew Carnahan said. “What happens… leaves everything… in a terrible state of disarray.”

Carnahan, along with stars Schwartz and Josh Lawson offered six other teases for the season finale, Season 2 and beyond:

Kristen Bell Joins HRC Campaign
March 28, 2012 | 0 Comments

Add Kristen Bell to the ever-growing list of celebrities and politicians speaking out in favor of marriage equality.

The “House of Lies” actress is the latest to film a video ad for the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC) Americans for Marriage Equality effort. “It breaks my heart to know that millions of gay Americans still can’t marry the one they love, and I can,” Bell, who will next be seen opposite Bradley Cooper in this summer’s “Outrun,” says in the new clip. “That makes no sense.”

Bell’s efforts earned the praise of HRC President Joe Solmonese. “Every day committed and loving gay and lesbian couples face the unfair reality that marriage is out of the question for them,” he said in an email statement. “Kristen Bell, like a majority of Americans, recognizes the injustice of this discrimination, and the harm it inflicts on families across the country.”

This isn’t the first time the 31-year-old actress has spoken out in favor of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights. Earlier this month, she told The Advocate that she and fiance Dax Shepard would hold off on tying the knot until until same-sex marriage is legal throughout the United States. “The reason we’re not rushing to get married is because I don’t feel appropriate taking advantage of a right that’s denied to my best friends,” said Bell, who names openly gay “Star Trek” actor Zachary Quinto as a confidante. “Dax and I have talked about it a lot, and this issue is very important to both of us. We’re just standing up for what we believe in.”
