About
Oh, hello, I didn’t see you there. Hi, I’m Ricardo Friaz. I am a 5th-year English/Philosophy double major and future hobo. I waste too much time reading videogame blogs, playing videogames, and thinking about said videogames. It would seem that I have a problem. So I’m here, writing an apologetics for the media of the ‘videogame,’ and maybe convince a few people that being a ‘gamer’ is just as cute and respectable as a ‘film buff,’ or a ‘book worm.’ Except less turdy.
As for the name of the website, I really just wanted to pick a domain name and get cracking. So, after failing to think of some good videogame names, I decided to appropriate Baudrillard’s concept of ‘simulacra,’ and fuck it up a little, thus evading responsibility of fleshing out a long explanation of how this blog is just another example of the simulacrum (which it is). Also, there is a very nice resonance with the concept of games as ‘simulation,’ except games are so much more. They are simulacrators. Ergo.
ERGO. ERGO. ERGO. ERGO. That's SO funny.
I suppose I haven’t said who I am, to those who don’t know who I am, yet. My name is Ricardo Friaz, and you can kind of find me pretty easy, since my name is highly Googlie. I’m the only one with a Z (there might be a second one out there now). Sending me interweb messages is generally pretty easy. Someday I’ll put a picture here too.
