Junk Kitchen Series #4 - Do You Do Duo, Two?
Music of Solo and Duo Formations

Featured artists:
Garrison Fewel and Eric Hofbauer - guitars
Jorrit Dijkstra - saxophone
Esther Viola - oboe
and more to be announced!

Junk Kitchen turns armchair psychologist with this one as its patients will be coming tonight to get things off their chests! Soloists tired from the daily grind, frustrated with a love affair, or just sick of no one paying attention to them, will have a chance to vent out in stream-of conscious improvs to thoughtfully composed soliloquies.
Duos who “just want to make it work” will display their communication skills by hashing out old emotional scars; coming to amends and forging new bonds that will help send them off into the sunset.
And in the process the Junk Kitchen is going to keep its big mouth shut on this one and take the Freudian approach. It will dim the lights, place fake plants around the room, put up generic pictures of beaches on the walls, as patients lying down on a big cold leather couch will have the Doc saddle up next to them with a legal pad and an expensive pen. I can’t guarantee you that its notes won’t be full of doodles though... (Co-pay required)

Old Time Musketry

Old Time Musketry plays a joyous music that draws on the exuberant spirit of early jazz, the poignant melodies and soulful grooves of rock and folk music, the energy and spontaneity of free improvisation, and a willfully experimental attitude towards combining these elements into a unique vision of American music. We joined forces in early 2009 in Brooklyn and have been developing our sound by performing widely in the New York area and around the Northeast. Individually, we’ve worked with many of the most creative players on the New York jazz and improvised music scene, including Tim Berne, Oscar Noriega, Loren Stillman, Drew Gress, Eivind Opsvik, George Schuller, Jacob Sacks, Jeremy Udden, and Josh Sinton, and have contributed our voices to projects covering an aesthetically broad range from singer-songwriters to rock bands to electro-pop groups.

Our debut album will be coming out in the fall on a new label affiliated with Steeplechase Records. You can hear tracks from the album at a password-protected site we've set up. Just click the following link, enter the password “parade” (all lowercase) and hit “Submit” and a player will appear:

Jack Finnegan – story-teller presents “City Love Song”
This autumn I will deliver free storytelling performances in 30 cities around America, a tour that marks the third and final cycle of "City Love Song," and which will conclude with a return to the Off Broadway stage in New York City. The story is a traveler's tale of our worldly neighborhood, and is drawn from a global tour produced last summer--the second cycle in "City Love Song"--in which a traveler's tale of America was presented in the public squares of 13 cities on 6 continents.
The story itself is a lyrical, philosophical celebration of life in its many forms, and while it is safe for children it is intended for adults. The piece runs approximately 75 minutes and I am available for Q&A, if desired.
